Modern or Traditional: Engagement Announcement?

Modern. Called our families and friends, had a family dinner to celebrate, then posted on Facebook that evening. Never did a newspaper announcement

My mom, siblings, and his parents and two of my friends all knew before everyone else. He had asked my mom and siblings permission the day of (they suck at keeping secrets so he couldn’t ask before hand and risk them telling me lol). My two friends knew because the day of our 8 year anniversary I made the comment to them of feel free to bother him about when the rings coming and he had to tell them both about it because they were constantly bothering him about it lol. But after that I posted a status change on Facebook and kinda just enjoyed the omg what? Congrats!! That followed

In between, we didn't go super traditional for the newspaper, but we also made sure to call all of our important people before posting about it..

I suppose I'd have to say Modern. We were abroad in Scotland when he popped the question, and had VERY poor cell phone service. My FH's family and my father all knew already, but we wound up texting everyone in our immediate families that we could once we were back at our hotel with wifi connection (the perk of iMessage, What'sApp, and Snapchat). Then we wound up waiting until we returned home from Germany (which was our next destination) a couple of weeks later in order to make a big FB announcement, since all of the family members were in the know.

We made the announcement in person to direct family. The FH made a facebook post, and then we both posted the ring on instagram.

Called our immediate family, then announced on social media.

Sort of modern. We told family and close friends via phone and face to face conversation. Then we posted a photo that wasn't extravagant at all of FB. And we changed out status on FB

We just put it on Facebook. Who looks at the newspaper? lol

We called close family then changed our relationship on facebook. we ended up making a game of it by posting at the same time and see who gets the most likes lol my sister shared my post so her likes counted towards me and his mom shared his so hers counted towards him. I won by a landslide! lol

View Quoted Comment They did, I was working that day until 11p and he had asked on the day he asked me. He had been carrying around the ring in a sock inside his backpack for months (I’m nosey and I like to clean on my free time so I would’ve found it if he didn’t lol)

View Quoted Comment Oh and yes I was totally surprised, we don’t usually have time or money to celebrate our anniversary so I had just imagined he was just trying to be sweet and do something small to celebrate. We’ve been together 8 years and I’ve never been the “when’s the ring coming?” Type of girl and we’ve always been the type of couple that is basically an old married couple so it came as a shock when he actually asked lol. I asked him omg are you serious? Like this isn’t a joke and you’re serious? Of course once he said yes babe I’m serious I said yes and was so happy

My mom sent an announcement to the newspaper about a month later, and we updated our Facebook relationship after everyone important new. The "announcement" wasn't a big thing for us.
