Hey ladies, just curious if your MOB or MOG is wearing white (or something off white)? Just wanted to know how common this is....

I feel kinda the same as you Katie, but I don't want to create bad feelings with my FMIL over a dress.....this situation is stressing me a bit.

I am wearing Ivory on my wedding day and all of my BM's are wearing white (except my MOH, she's wearing yellow). I think that I may also have my mom wear white and accent her dress a little (to match the other colors of my wedding). I guess it all just depends on the bride though. If you're comfortable having your bridal party wear white then I say GO FOR IT! Its your wedding afterall...

One guy told us that he was going to wear a white suit, but he jokes around a lot, so I HOPE this was a joke! I want to be the only one in white, but Groom wants to wear white also and there's no convincing him to wear black, as hard as I tried!

Our colors are navy blue and raspberry. My mother picking a gorgeous navy blue gown and my FMIL has chosen a champagne dress. I must admit, I would be a bit upset if my FMIL had chosen a white dress. But I am just like you and not one who likes to cause any type of confrontation. I'm going to suggest not stressing about it until after you see the dress, but then again, I know that is easier said than done.

I would die if my mother wore ALL white or off white. I think its just common knowledge that you shouldnt. I can understand if the dress has some accent color of white but anything else I think you have the right to say what you feel. If you want to be the only person in all white at the wedding then tell them. Its your princess day, no one else's!!

I'm an odd one out. I don't want the mothers wearing all white- but I would be perfectly fine with them wearing an off white, silver, sand, darker ivory color. I think it would be very pretty.

and i don't care if people wear white to my wedding. not like anyone is going to think they are the bride. unless they come in a formal gown.

Like you Shellie, I don't mind if anyone else wears white, or an outfit that is predominantly white.....but its tough when its your FMIL because she will be in many pictures. I'm ok with her wearing gold, dark ivory, dark cream, tan, alabaster....I'm just worried because she said the dress is white with a faint blue/silver tint with an oyster waist. ...and just to add, my dress has an oyster waist too. UGH, I don't want to sound like a complete nagging bride-zilla, as it is just a dress. Her appointment is tomorrow at 10:00am, so I will give updates when I see the dress......I hope I am just worried for nothing.

OH so I have a solution if she is in love with the dress... READY??? OK so let her get the dress but dye it another color??? That is what my mom is doing ... she is getting a discounted dress and getting it dyed to a lavender color. Maybe you could suggest that?

Maybe the blue will be blue enough that it looks for silver then white?

I read somewhere that it used to be tradition that the BM all wear similar dresses as the bride, right down to the same color. Personally, I would not allow anyone to wear white, especially if they are wearing a formal gown. The only people allowed to wear white will be me and the FG, although her dress will be accented in either merlot or deep blue. I think it's rude to wear white, and I have a feeling my FMIL will try it. I guess we will just have a Monster In Law moment then lol

Personally, I wouldn't wear white or anything close to it as the MOG or MOB. However, I did notice when I was looking for MOG outfits that a surprising number of outfits in champagne--which isn't that far from white--were advertised.

I have seen MOG/MOB wear white at weddings before. Its only a problem if they can possibly be confused with the bride. If that isn't a factor then why does it matter?

**Update** I went shopping with my FMIL, she had 3 dresses picked out. 2 were bridesmaid dresses, and one was (as suspected) definetly a bridal gown. The gown was made of chaffon...a style you would wear at a beautiful destination beach wedding. It was a cream color with an oyster waist sash. As for the other two, one was a long champain color with a coral sash made of a satin (strapless) and the other was a long perriwinkle blue made of chaffon. All were beautiful dresses, but IMO opinion, not really for her. Now to expand on this, not for her because she looked very unconfortable in them, not because I'm trying to be a jerk and thow out every dress idea she has. The only one I had a problem with was the bridal dress. I took her aside and kindly let her know that the dress was the exact same colors of my wedding dress, and although I can make her decision for her, I would appreciate if she could choose something different out of respect of me being the bride/the dress being so

Similar to my dress. She was fine with this as she didn’t know what my dress looked like (the only one who has seen my dress is my mother….wanted to keep something special for just my mom and I). I picked out a few dresses I thought would look nice on her and would be more comfortable. Also to expand, my FMIL has MS….a very far advanced case of it and I could see that she was stumbling on the long dresses, and suggested skirt suit style with jackets, along with dresses at tee length. I found this one in particular that she really liked, but is still going to sit on it for a few days and shop around. So I think I did an ok job not hurting her feelings along with trying to steer her in a direction of an outfit that would better suit her. I hope I did atleast!
