mob Attire

What is typical attire/color for the mother of the bride (And the groom?) My mom is asking me what she should wear and what colors are okay and I have no idea what to tell her!

I second the complimentary colors. Three MOG and MOB are going to wear different shades of purple.

What is the level of formality of your wedding? This is the most important factor in choosing a dress. Will they need a long gown? A midi or knee length dress?

Traditionally, the mothers dress themselves and choose something that will look good in any photos with the wedding party. The need not match the wedding palette, but just not be too high a contrast.

Often they choose a neutral like pewter, champagne, taupe, black , navy etc- depending on their coloring.

Encourage them to not restrict themselves to something labelled "mother of the bride (or groom). Sometimes those outfits can be a bit dowdy.

Our wedding colors are Coral and Creams with my bridesmaids wearing Coral. I just had my mom and my FMIL pick a color that they liked. The only thing that I asked was that the color didn't clash with my colors. That worked best for us because I wanted them to be comfortable in what they were wearing. My mom and FMIL also have very different tastes and never would have picked the same color. lol

A nice blue would compliment those colors very well.

My colors are burgundy, forest green, and blush. I'll see if they will choose something neutral or even the blush color, since that color will be a minimal accent color.

    Thanks guys!

Tell them to choose whatever color they feel best wearing. It's really not our place as a bride to tell our Moms what to wear.

Hi Miriah! We both told our moms what they wedding party was wearing so they could match the formality level, then told them to pick essentially whatever dress they wanted!

I actually preferred that they not match the bridesmaids to keep things from being too matchy-matchy!

My mother is wearing a beautiful pants suit that compliments the flowers very well. That was coincidence. She asked me if I was okay with her wearing pants and I told her as long as she's comfortable I was fine with it.

FMIL is a weeeeee bit more bling-y, in the best of ways. She asked me what color to wear and I told her whatever she wanted. Then she asked me what color not to wear and I told her white. Lol. I could picture her in a very sparkly (tasteful - not full sequins) dress suit or pants suit and I'll be fine with either.

My mom is my moh so she's in ice blue like the rest of my bridal party but mog I just don't want her wearing white or champagne which is the color of my dress other than that she can wear what she wants.

Yes! That is my main concern. I don't want to dictate what they are wearing, I just don't want them to match or clash with the wedding party!

Same- I let them pick colors that compliment the wedding colors. Ours are black, gold, and blush. My mom is wearing a sage green and my FMIL is in navy.

It's not that I'm trying to dictate what they wear. I just don't want them matching my bridesmaids, or clashing with them. For example; my mom's favorite color is red, but my main wedding color is burgundy and I don't want the colors clashing in the pictures. Smiley smile

I told my mother and my FHs mother to pick whatever dress they felt comfortable in. Regardless of the color. They know our wedding colors and if they choose to follow the color scheme, great. If not, also great. They are not in the bridal party so they don't need to match. I just want them to be happy.

My grandmother asked what to wear and of she had to wear a dress. I told her she doesn't have to wear a dress but I would like her to wear either red or purple.

My mother is wearing purple since it is her favorite color. MY FMIL has yet to pick out her dress but I told her that she can wear any color that she wants except for white, purple and navy blue ( bridesmaid dress color). She seems a little over whelmed in picking out what to wear so I suggested making a girls day of it and we would go shopping together to help her find a dress.
