M&M's as wedding favors

Nicole, on March 11, 2017 at 11:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 43

My FH and I have decided we would like to do personalized M&M's as wedding favors. My FMIL thinks that m&ms are cheesy, like sweet 16 or birthday party-like. What do you guys thinks? Has anyone done m&ms and how did they come out?

I would happily leave a wedding with a bag of candy. Sounds delicious

Candy bars are all the rage in my area. I think it is super cool. I love the personalized M&M's, although I think it is a little strange to have the couples face on them. I feel weird eating their picture.

They're very expensive for something so unnecessary. Although I much prefer edible favors over personalized things people expect me to use my around home.

This is probably heresy, but I don't love M&M's. I love chocolate, I love candy, but I think the personalized ones are expensive and just not all that delicious.

It's a cute idea, but just try to imagine yourself as a guest. I know that when I go to a wedding and I see party favors, more often than not I kind of roll my eyes and think "what a waste of money". Most of your guests are not going to care that the m&m's have your initials on them. In fact they might think it's a bit self-absorbed. If you love candy, why not just do candy bags as a favor, skip the personalization.

I can sort of see where your FMIL's coming from, but at the same time aren't party favors in general more appropriate for a sweet 16 or birthday party rather than a wedding? What ideas does she have for party favors? Or does she think you should just skip them? It is perfectly fine to skip them, by the way. ETA: this is a pretty small detail, it might be worth it to go along with your FMIL to keep the peace. I like to make little concessions to things that people seem to really care about.

I had them at mine Smiley smile we bought the ones that already came together in little packets and put one at each place setting. We didn't add any pictures because it made the cost go up a lot. Not one was left on the table though! Not sure if it's still there, but there was a Groupon for them!

ETA: just wanted to add that I picked the colors of our wedding, added "Thank You", our wedding date, and starfish pictures and the total was around $110 for 65 of the little packets. They can definitely get pricey if you have more guests though.

@Cutenickname My FMIL's ideas are like mini bottles of wine/hard liquor, personalized wine glass and beer mugs, bottle openers, smores kits, those type of elaborate favors. We are having 185 guests so doing some of her ideas are $$$. My FH and I don't find the favors necessary but shes says they are.

I think any candy, like kisses? I don't see that one often and I love them more than M&Ms. I think the ones with pictures are a bit cheesey but hey it's your wedding!

I was thinking of getting the m&m's. My best friend told me it was childish. She suggested doing "fancy" chocolate. Even though it's my wedding I did like her suggestions. LOL but remember it's your wedding. You can listen to suggestions but you don't have to follow them if you don't like them. Smiley smile

I love M&M wedding favors. Better than koozies or wine glasses or coasters or anything else I'd donate to Goodwill.
