Mixing white and ivory?

Shannon Giraffes., on December 15, 2013 at 3:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

My dress is ivory, but I feel like anything else that isn't black or teal, is going to be white instead of ivory. It just has a cleaner look and it's easier to match and find things. We also have zebra accents mixed in.

Do you think this makes an ivory dress look dirty? Who else has an ivory dress? Is that the only thing you have that will be ivory, or are you incorporating it elsewhere too??

My dress is ivory my shoes are white. Then again I'm getting married on the Las Vegas strip and my dress is cocktail length and my shoes are flip flops( it's a nod to our charleston sc home)

My dress is champagne, and it definitely looks dingy next to white, so I'm trying to stick to nothing else whiter than champagne. If its just small stuff like napkins, it would probably be okay, but if its soemthing bigger, like a white table cloth on your cake table, your dress probably won't look as good in the pictures with those things.

I don't have ivory, I have white. I've actually had an easier time finding ivory stuff for some reason, but just for personal preference I won't be mixing the two. And my colors are black and white. But I don't think it would look bad, and I think ivory is gorgeous and wouldn't look dirty or anything.

I'm wearing vory, but my colors are a scheme of white, ivory, champagne, blush, and beige. So hopefully it blends, if not, oh well. lol.

White really does make ivory look dingy. Like a PP said, if its just a few small things it won't be a big deal, but I wouldn't do anything major in white. Ivory is generally pretty easy to find too.

As far as the guy's clothing, they've got dark gray tuxes, black vests, teal tie, and we were thinking of doing a white shirt. Because the ivory shirts really do look dirty lol.

Also the mother of the flower girl bought her dress without my approval and I believe it is white...kinda worried how that will look.

One of my main concerns was flowers...we are thinking of doing white or ivory flowers. Given the guys wearing white shirts and me in ivory...I'm not sure how best to go about that.

I have an ivory dress and my wedding theme ivory pearls surrounded by the wedding colors of navy and gold. It's been quite challenging but i want no white colors at my wedding. So far a lot of researching online has helped with selections.

I spent a LOT of time stressing about this and have ended up with a soft white dress and everything else ivory. Now that they are next to each other, I don't think it looks nearly as bad as I thought it would. I can't believe I spent SO much time stressing about it. And no one will think twice about it.

So whatever you do will be fine! I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but it's one of those details only the bride stresses out about. Smiley smile

eta: also, there's another post about this from a few weeks and someone included pictures of ivory/white mixes and they looked great! You might want to search for it and see what you think.

I have a soft lace ivory gown and my colors were grey & white with pale green and plum accents. I was worried about my bouquet most of all because it has a lot of whites and greens in it, now I find that it's not so bad because the flowers are kind of ivory in the centers anyways. As for everything else, I don't think it's that big of a deal. My venue is a natural venue on top of a mountain, but it has a garden-feel to it. We're getting married in spring so there's lots of different shades of colors anyways. I wouldn't worry too much, I would just try not to incorporate too much of that hit you in the face white. Smiley smile

I've seen a lot of white next to ivory, and I really do think it ends up making ivory look dingy. Then again, working in the tux shop has made me cringe at white next to ivory. My friend had and ivory-ivory (not light ivory) dress and her husband got a white tux. It didn't look very nice. But i think if they are small accents it could be okay. I think the zebra will be fine since there is a mix of black and white. As far as the tuxes go, I would suggest ivory. There are some shirts that tend to be a softer ivory instead of the butter-colored ivory, so if you can, go for those. Hope that helps.

My dress is ivory and when we were picking out tuxes for the guys i really liked the white shirt better, but when we compared it with my dress it really did make it look dirty. I definitely do not recommend doing white shirts, the last thing you want is your dress looking dirty!

My dress is an ivory lace overlay and oyster (a grey/brown) satin underneath. I never even thought about my gown matching the table linens, etc. I guess it's low on my priority list. None of my guests are going to look at the napkins and go, "Oh my god. I can't believe her dress doesn't match them!" It's somewhat dark in our venue anyhow so people aren't going to notice a slight color difference. As long as FH and the GM don't wear white button downs, we should be fine.

White shirts might be okay, but a woman other than the bride wearing white? No way-- it's just common courtesy not to wear white at a wedding!

Put your dress next to something white, and see how it looks. Like I said, mine obviously looks dingy next to white, so it should/will be obvious to you whether or not your dress will look ok next to white.

Depending on your photographer and lighting, it will either not be that big of a deal, or it will make your dress look dirty. Make sure you ask for off white or ivory for AT LEAST your groom since he will be next to you all night.

My cousin had an ivory dress and her groom had a bright white shirt, vest, tie and trim on his suit and it made her dress look like one of those plain white tees with the armpit stains that has been washed and worn a million times. He photographer luckily went in to every picture and changed his shirt.

    Just something to think about.
