Mismatched wedding band and engagement ring?

Kaylie, on October 16, 2015 at 12:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

My engagement ring was my grandmother's and I absolutely adore it but unfortunately it's yellow gold which isn't as popular anymore. As FH and I are looking for our wedding bands I'm finding it difficult to find a yellow gold band that I like and that works with my e-ring. Because of the plating on the ring I'm wondering if I can get by with a white gold band. Does anyone else have mismatched wedding bands/e-rings?

ETA: sorry about the picture! I don't know why it flipped!

Thanks @VM! I was kind of thinking you wouldn't be able to tell as much with mine either because you can really only see the yellow gold on the bottom.

In that pic you can barely tell it's yellow gold. Get what you want.

I would agree, the band isn't think gold on top so I think that you can go for a white gold. It will fit well with the diamonds! Ps stunning ring.

Mismatched metals are "in" right now. But could you have your grandmother's ring dipped in white gold if that's what you prefer?

Agreed, you can;t even tell it's yellow gold. There is also a way to dip the yellow gold ring and have it be white gold if you really want them to match. But really, it's totally up to you. The personal meaning is WAY more important than a match.

Thanks @Amber. I wanted something vintage from the beginning so this was ideal! @Annakay I actually just got off the phone with the jewelry store who did some work on this ring and they said it can be dipped but it wears off super quickly so it's not worth the money. Apparently it's $65 to dip and it can wear off after only a couple of months Smiley sad

@Stephanie I totally agree. I didn't originally want yellow gold but when I saw this ring and the sentimental value behind it, I didn't are anymore. I've more just been frustrated with the lack of yellow gold band options out there.

I'm planning on doing this for my rings... and I've been told that they don't match... The band will be meteorite and African blackwood with titanium.

There is no such thing as white gold, all white gold is actually yellow gold that has been dipped. It usually lasts a year or more (depending on wear and tear) before it needs to be dipped again.

Thanks guys! I get it either way... that its really cool, or that its mismatched. LOL.

@Nikkell... (ETA: I mean Kaylie!!!!) Go with whatever. My first wedding band had yellow, white and rose gold. I loved that ring. Your E-ring is yellow, so get a rose and white gold band... :-D

My best friend has a platinum engagement ring and bought two wedding rings for herself so she could have the "stacked" look. One wedding band is yellow gold with channel set diamonds and the other one is rose gold that has diamonds that kind of twist around. I'm too type A to mismatch my bands, but hers look really good together and I'm sure whatever you choose will look great!

My engagement ring & wedding band match in color, but not in style, because I never intended to necessarily wear them together. The prongs on the engagement ring snag & I'm a seamstress so I cant always be wearing it. (Plus, not gonna lie, it spins on my finger which drives me nuts... cant make it smaller 'cause of knuckles.) So my wedding band is just a simple gold band that won't snag on anything.

Maybe you could find a white gold wedding band that has some subtle accents in yellow gold to tie it in with the other one? Otherwise I agree that there is totally nothing wrong with mismatched Smiley smile I doubt most people would even notice unless you pointed it out.

Melissa that's a good idea! Thanks for all the advice ladies. I feel better about possibly going the mismatched route now!
