Mismatched rings/ring gaps

Kia9, on February 24, 2017 at 9:31 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 36

My engagement ring is oval, which means I either get a curved band (not ideal if I want to wear the band alone) or have a gap. I found a straight band I LOVE, but I know it is a bit "unconventional" to be gap-ing it. Anyone out there willing to show their gaps/mismatched bands in solidarity?

Can we see a pic? Does your stone on e-ring not sit up high enough to do a band that fits under it?

I think it depends on how you feel about it honestly...youre the one wearing it. Personally, It would bother me..but I'm weird about stuff like that.

I don't have anything to show but I have recommended TwoBirch to others, they make custom rings. They send you a little plastic case with molding putty and you mold your ring and send it to them and they will make a custom band to fit your ring. Just a thought?

@sara your E-ring is so unique. Is it a family members or is it new? It looks vintage, I love it!

@MrsVoegs17 --Thanks! Its new. My FH worked with a local jeweler to design it. I told him I wanted sapphires on my ring but not as the main stone. Thats what they came up with.

There are also infinity symbols on the sides..to symbolize infinite love and the first piece of jewelry he ever got me was an infinity symbol bracelet.

I think he did good lol

I plan to have a gap because I don't like how curved rings look on their own. It's all personal preference!

I don't have a picture of my ring with the band (it is in the process of being sized). The band is essentially the same as the sides of my engagement ring - thin, rose gold band with diamonds along the front. Sorry the photo is kind of crappy...

Kia- I don't think that would look funny at all unless it is a really significant gap especially since they look similar.

Mine will have a gap because my engagement ring is split shank with a curve, and my wedding band is "straight". I don't love the look of the gap either but my jeweler warned getting something curved to fit will look funny unless I do it on both sides of the ring, which he then said would detract from my engagement ring.

My engagement ring has a twisted split shank, and the center stone has a halo around it. It sits high enough that my wedding band fits just under the stone, although I'd have gotten the straight band regardless.

ETA: Woops, forgot to add the picture!

Your ring is beautiful!! My ering has a band that is curved on one side but not the other (and it's opposite on either side), so unless I did custom no band would sit flush. At first I thought this would really bother me, but I have both a curved a band and a small straight band (one on either side) and the gap doesn't really bother me at all. I'd recommend trying on different styles in person, see what you like!

You can kind of see it here, but there is a gap on mine. I don't mind it! The designer didn't really make a band that fit my ring exactly. Kia - Your ring is so pretty and unique Smiley smile I would keep it simple with the band you have that is being soldered to the e-ring!

    Edited to add better picture

I have the curve band for my opal. I love the look of wearing it alone. Once we are married I plan on not wearing my engagement ring often because of how delicate it is.
