Mismatched Bridesmaid Dresses Help!

Emily, on August 11, 2019 at 10:48 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Hi everyone! I really want to do mismatched bridesmaid dresses (along with everybody else right now, it looks like!) but I'm having troubles actually making a decision about HOW to do it so it looks cohesive. Here's my situation...

There are 8 people in my bridal party, but 3 are men who will be wearing navy suits, which leaves 5 girls!

I want to do shades of blue so it looks like a gradual sunset, but am having a hard time deciding on colors and neck line.

I'm currently thinking of sky blue and slate blue dresses from Kennedy Blue (see hyperlink for colors/one dress style) , and letting my 5 girls choose the color they want from 4 pre-approved dresses. Is that too much work?

As far as necklines go, my wedding dress has a high halter neck. Do you think it works to have lower cut dresses like this, or should dresses match my neckline?

Thanks in advance for any help! Mismatched dresses look great, but there actually seems to be MORE work in them than less!

I would assign a color to each girl and let them choose their dress. What will you do if you have 4 girls all choose the same shade of blue? It seems easier to just give each person a color. As for the neckline, I don’t think it matters. I’ve never compared the bridesmaids neckline to the bride and I don’t see any correlation.

I don’t think you need to worry about neckline. I would tell each girl a color let them buy a dress. Or have them wear same dress in different shades. I would not by a dress that only has 3.5 stars review. I honestly do not buy anything with out a 4 star review or higher. You can find dresses for a better or same price with better reviews.

You pick the color, let them pick the dress. Not everyone looks good in the same thing and you want them to feel comfortable in what they are wearing. You can always ask them to show you what they are planning to choose before ordering for “approval”. That being said, have you seen the dresses from this website in person? They do not have good reviews... many stating poor quality.

There's those dresses where they can tie it in different ways and it'd be a different style dress? I let mine all choose different dresses just as long as it was within pink range and it worked out. Maybe give them any kind of guidance if you have any specific looks you'd want to incorporate

I gave mine the color and let them pick their dress. So I say assign each a color and let them pick the dress.

I gave my girls access to a showroom on Azazie's website of the dresses I was ok with them choosing. My only guidelines were chiffon, long, not strapless, everyone wearing a different style, and "dusk" colored. I have two friends that did this same thing and all of our bridesmaids looked lovely!

I don't think your dress really impacts what the bridesmaid's dresses look like as far as the neckline goes.

If you want to do different shades, I would assign each girl a shade based on the order they'll be standing in. You don't want 1 girl choosing one shade and 4 girls choosing the other shade and standing out in a bad way.

I picked 4 dresses in the same color with the same waistline and skirt. They got to choose what the neckline looked like based on what they felt most comfortable in!
