Mini Vent about Wedding Venue Coordinator

Kate, on March 6, 2022 at 9:06 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 10

I just wanted to mini vent that I dislike my wedding venue coordinator so much. She was super nice when we toured, but communication has been lacking for the past year, often times taking me emailing 2 or 3 times before getting a response. No biggy, decided to hire a day of coordinator just to make sure my day goes well and make sure my vendors all know what is going on.

Well I reached out to the venue coordinator because we are about 8 weeks out from our wedding and I've heard nothing. So I asked what the next steps are... she responds that I have to come in for a planning session. Okay cool!

I went in Friday with my day of coordinator and the venue coordinator just had the biggest chip on her shoulder. When she saw I brought another person it wasn't a "hi" it was a "Who are you?". She also didn't seem to want to share any information with my day of coordinator and seemed offended that I brought my own coordinator. Also my DJ called her last week too to ask some quesions and she had an attitude with him too.

I regret picking this place, just based on the experience I've had with her and she gives me anxiety. Like makes me feel like the things I'm asking are absured and stupid. I swear that I'm not asking for crazy accomodations or anything like that. Like "Are there signs for the bathroom?" "How early can we access the bridal suite?" etc. I know people say that WeddingWire and TheKnot can scrub bad reviews and I just wonder how many were scrubed for this vendor.

Sorry for the negative post, just disappointed and stressed.

Girl, I swear this is a common trend with venue coordinators! I have had a nearly identical experience with mine, and nearly everyone I have spoken to about this says they had a similar experience with their weddings as well.

Ughh It's so upsetting. Like wedidngs are so stressful already let alone having to worry about a coordinator who seems extremely inconvienced by your presence. I'm scared that on my wedding day she'll be a negative nelly and bring down my day. I wish I had the audacity to speak up and confront her on her negative attitude. My DJ is like the one of the nicest humans you could probably ever speak to and dosen't seem like he has a mean bone in his body and he even said she was "annoyed with him" for his questions. He even explained that he is very serious about his business and doesn't just want to make the bride and groom happy but also foster a good relationship with the venue and she just was not having it.

That’s so frustrating! I just can’t for the life of me understand why these people choose a profession that requires them to work with others and provide exceptional customer service, when they obviously don’t have the desire or personality for it. Luckily, you have hired a dedicated wedding coordinator, so she should be running interference the day of your wedding. So even if the venue coordinator has a sour attitude, hopefully you will never even be aware of it.

That’s not fun. I think a venue should come with a detailed list of the offerings that are included so that we don’t have to ask. Just like the details you mention. I’m lucky that our Coordinator is helpful and friendly.

You should give an appropriate review after your wedding on Google and other websites besides WW. No one wants to deal with a bad attitude during a stressful time that you are paying lots of $$ for.

That sucks. Hopefully your DOC can stand up to her and get everything needed for your wedding day. Some people are just miserable. Definitely write a review but you can also tell the management. She has a boss and they should know the way she treats customers.

I know what you mean I had a problem like that too with no call backs I even messaged on Messagern for months. Then I called again in a fit telling him how I have been trying to reach out to you for guys. I finally got to talk to someone it's to late to cancel because I still be paying for the canceling fee. Which I dont think it's right because no one was reaching back out. I hope that your wedding day is magical we have too not now put rude ppl out of mind. Then speak to her boss and let them know how you were treated.

I hear you and that's frustrating...I'm not sure brides realize that there are probably 2-3 weddings a week at their venue and venue coordinators are focused on brides within the next month. For them, things don't really need attention until 3-4 weeks out while the bride feels overwhelmed and that their needs aren't being met.

I believe think most brides are aware of how busy their venues are or aren’t. I think most of us don’t know what we don’t know and if it’s not communicated to us of when we should or shouldn’t reach out, we don’t know when is too late. If I was told or given a timeline that would even help. My venue coordinator picked the day and time of the meeting for planning, so if it wasn’t convenient for her she could have picked a time 3 or 4 weeks before my wedding, it would have been fine. I understand being busy but communication is important and a kind attitude. I’m not even saying she has to be positive or peppy even, just not rude. I don’t think it’s a high bar and being busy isn’t an excuse for rude behavior.

My friend got married in September. When we got into the bridal room. None of the stuff that’s as supposed to be in there was (coffee cups, plates, etc…) and there was broken glass And DOG POOP on the floor. She tried to explain it away by saying they’d had a wedding the night before but like… ok..?
She didn’t let guests know where the favors were, she lit the sparklers for the exit and then didn’t get the bride and groom and she was passive aggressive nasty.
But you know what? The bride doesn’t remember any of it. We (her bridesmaids) took care of it and she had a fabulous time.Bringing your own coordinater will definitely help and I’m sure she’s used to it based on the responses to your post.

I've always heard that you should hire a DOC even if you have a venue coordinator, so I'm super confused as to why she was offended when that appears to be standard practice. I'm so sorry you're experiencing this, but I'm sure your DOC is up to the challenge and that everything will be wonderful!
