Middle Aged Flower girl? Is that too weird?

Krista, on December 26, 2013 at 2:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 46

Right after I got engaged my aunt, who must be in her late 40's or early 50's, posted on my facebook wall that since I was a flower girl in her wedding, can she be the flower girl in my wedding? I didn't respond because I wasn't sure if she was joking or not, and if she was serious I didn't want to hurt her feelings. She has since then made another comment about it, so I think she is for real.

I was going to have one of my BM's daughter be the flower girl, but I recently found out that she is leaving her daughter with her in-laws so she and her husband can have a weekend to themselves, which I totally understand.

Now, I don't have anyone to be a flower girl. So would it be super weird if I asked my aunt? I think it would be kind of funny. What would you think if you were at a wedding and a 50 yr old was the flower girl?

I would not have her be your flower girl. It's a flower GIRL. Not flower WOMAN. I'd see if you can have her be an honorary bridesmaid or do a reading or something.

That would be strange, IMO. I would just not have a flower girl.

If I were at your wedding, and a 50 year old was tossing flower petals, I would think it was a joke.

Hmm. I think it's odd, but that's because I've never heard of it. Would she have a different dress than the others? If not, then I think it'll be fine.

If I were in your position I would probably scratch the flower girl idea altogether. Reason being, knowing my crowd, even if I were considering it at some point, it would definitely be awkward for everyone else.

I'm with Lisa on this one. I have never heard of anyone having an adult flower girl but you should be able to find something she can do at the wedding.

If i saw this i would assume there is either a hilarious or sweet reason behind it and then i'd want to find out what it was. if you want her to be the flower girl, ask her. but don't ask her bc you feel obligated. you can get married without a flower girl

There is such a thing as a flower grandma, so why not? there was a post here a while back about a bride who had the two grandmothers walk down the aisle and toss the petals, and it made for some really cute pictures.

Yes.... That said maybe you can find a special thing for her to do, maybe have her do a reading at the ceremony if she really wants to be a part of it. I think no flower girl is better then a flower women

One of my brides had always told her niece that if aunt ever got married, niece would be her flower girl. Well, it took quite a while for aunt to find Mr. Right and she was about 50 when I married them. Now-grown-up niece walked down the aisle grinning from ear-to-ear and tossing petals. Everyone loved it!!

If you are up for something totally different and a little unheard of at your wedding go for it!!

I would definately do this if I was close to any of my aunts and they actually wanted to do it! Why stick to tradition? It is YOUR wedding, do what YOU want to do!
