Micro-wedding people- how did you play music and announce each next ‘activity’?

Layla, on October 30, 2021 at 9:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
I’m trying to figure out who is going to play the music when I walk down the aisle (the music is on my phone and we’re using the venues speakers), start the music again when cocktail hour starts, announce that the dance floor is open/each parent dance, and who will change the playlist to our dancing music… all things that a DJ would normally do. Should I just hire a DJ to do this? We’re having 21 people but I don’t want to be focused on keeping the music going and making all these announcements. How did you do this if you had a micro wedding?

Do you have a DOC? That would be something they could do.

A DOC is a day of coordinator - they help keep things running smoothly throughout the day. Ours made sure that H and I didn't run into each other, coordinated vendors, grabbed the food when we were ready for it, lined us up, etc. Super helpful.

Your DOC can do all of this. I’d hire one over a DJ.

I had a microwedding with about 20 people. My DOC played the music during the wedding, cocktail hour and the reception based on the information and timeline I gave her, and one of my uncles (who is the life of the party) served as the MC at the reception. It worked out so well and my uncle said he was honored to be a part.

Hire a dj regardless of the guest count. Announcements are not necessary and people will figure out what is going on if you let the reception flow naturally.

You should definitely opt to have somebody be the MC to play host and/or have a DOC. Hire a DJ but don’t expect them to coordinate your wedding reception schedule. They’re more there to cue people I think and set the atmosphere.

We just had music queued on my husband’s phone and my brother controlled it for the ceremony. After the ceremony, we had a dinner playlist and an after-dinner playlist. It was nice because we didn’t have to fuss over the music or pay for a DJ. Because we only had 16 people, it was easy for my husband and I to keep everything on track. We just announced it ourselves “Alright Dad, time for our dance!” “Hey everyone, cake time!” DOCs and DJs are awesome for larger groups, but it was well worth it to us to save that money and just announce things ourselves.

My FHs cousin has been such as huge help with planning our wedding. So, she is our wedding planner and day of coordinator (DOC). Either way I was going designate someone to help lol. As for a DJ we are just using a playlist. The DOC will be in charge of the playlist for the ceremony and first dances. But other than that we are just playing a playlist the entire time. We are on a tight budget so we did not want to splurge too much on a DJ.
