Michigan brides! help!!

SoonToBeMrsS., on April 30, 2016 at 6:13 PM Posted in Michigan Planning 0 20

Looking for ideas for my wedding venue. I really want to get married in the woods but I'm having a hard time finding anything. Most of the rustic venues are at a barn, which is fine for a reception but would love the ceremony to be in the woods. Any suggestions are greatly appreciate. We are still in the early stages of planning so bear with me here.

When I hear woods I totally think Northern Michigan. Maybe a destination-y type wedding? Traverse City, Mackinac, Charlevoix?

I j now quite a few good areas we go hiking at but they are not set up for weddings. I wonder if it is legal to get married in a state Park. I just wonder if there is a venue already set up for this purpose to avoid some hassle or my guest having to hike lol.

This picture is Hoffmaster state park.

There is a nature center near Lansing that does weddings, also the state and metro parks as well. I'm also pretty sure the Howell nature center offers them as well.

Check out Shelden Estates in Stony Creek Metropark where I live in Rochester Hills. There is an abandoned dirt road near an old foundation in the middle of the woods and it's downright gorgeous for a ceremony. There is also a reception tent called the Sunset Terrace located in the park. I actually just called (again) on both yesterday and they are almost completely open for next summerSmiley smile It's my dream ceremony, but my wedding most likely has to be in December for family reasons. You can definitely get married in a state park, but you have to find out about their rules and restrictions.

Contact your closest KOA, they will know legal spots for weddings. We are getting married at the Headlands Dark Sky Park in Mackinaw City. We camp at the KOA there a lot and they were the ones that let us know about the park having a rentable event center

Try camps for that woodsy feel. I was going to rent the dining hall at lake proud in wixom or at camp dearborn but lake proud was simply lowsey with pine (but beautiful and private) and I'm allergic and camp dearborn was small and I was worried about weather.
