Miami or Fort Lauderdale? (Honeymoon help)

Vanessa, on May 17, 2017 at 9:41 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 20

Hello everyone! So for our honeymoon my FH and I are planning on spending 4 days in Orlando (2 Disney parks and 2 Universal parks). Then we want to head down to a beach but can't decide between Miami or Fort Lauderdale... which is better? We want to relax on the beach but also do activities (parasailing etc ..) and we want to go out at night (bars, club). Also, what are some good hotels/resorts?

Fort Lauderdale, Miami is overrated and overpriced.

Neither. They are both over rated. Go to Boca raton or Delray beach*

I personally hate Miami but if you want to go clubbing, I guess that would be good for you.

Great restaurants: Rusty Pelican, Smith and Wollinkis, Prime 112, Big Pinks

Fort Lauderdale is more economical. Try pompano beach. It is beautiful.

If your okay with the potential heat here at that time then I say Miami if your looking for the party scene, you will not find that in Ft.Lauderdale

I second Delray. It has amazing beach and a bit of party life at dark. If your stuck of lauderdale or Miami I'd pick lauderdale

Also, if you mean Universal and Islands of Adventure they are both doable in one day. Just something else to look at. Smiley smile

If you are considering Miami.. Do yourself a favor and drive 3 more hours and go to Keywest.

@SoonToB That's what I was thinking when I looked at their park maps online. They do offer the 2park pass so we may go with that. Thanks!

If you want a party vibe then Miami. Like pp said Delray and Boca are beautiful! If you're headed to Miami travel down a few more hours into the Keys. That's well worth it!

We're doing the same for our honeymoon and went with Fort Lauderdale over Miami. Asking around to others gave us the impression that Miami was way too crowded (not that Fort Lauderdale is not), and that Miami is more catered to the partiers (which wasn't our thing).

Give Ft. Lauderdale a try. There are some very good hotels along the beach and excellent restaurants and night life. You can take a cab over to Las Olas Blvd for some really good dining. Also, you can grad a water taxi, take a ride through the intercoastal area, hop off at a couple of spots, including waterside restaurants and hop back on.

Delray is nice, but your choices of hotels are very limited. It is much more quiet than Ft. Lauderdale, but there are nice options for dining and evening activities.

I lived in both areas so my honest opinion for a good time go to South beach in Miami. I would go ahead of schedule because parking sucks but it's more fun and the night life are amazing and it's also some parts is a nude beach. Fort Lauderdale is more if you are going with your kids because it's not too crazy or that crowded.
