Message-in-a-bottle Gifts

August Bride, on June 14, 2011 at 9:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

Hi Ladies,

I just ordered Message's-in-a-bottle for my guests attending our Destination Beach Wedding.

I am now having doubts on this. I was going to write a standard message that will go in all of the bottles, but I would like your advice.

The bottles will be set up at the wedding site, along with sea shells that will be thrown into the ocean (as a wish for us) and strawberries and champagne.

What are your thoughts?

Should I give this at a different time?

Should I write the message?

I think they should write a message and then throw them in.

You're not having the guests throw the bottles into the water, are you? The blessing shells are fine to toss in (they're natural). But the bottles would be litter -- use them as favors instead with a TY note inside and maybe some candies(?).

I love the idea! I also think the idea of throwing seashells in the ocean as good luck is such a great idea!! I might even use that in my wedding Smiley smile

Ditto Nancy. Once a romantic gesture, now an environmental hazard. Harming ocean life isn't such a great symbol for starting your marriage. But you only mention sending the shells into the water - hopefully that's the plan!!

    Thanks ladies,

My friend was at a wedding where they did this.

I don't want to litter, they are ment for a gift.

Would it be tacky to have all of the same message?

I only have 20 people coming, so maybe I should do all seperate ones and let them decide which one they would like?

Who is the message for? If it's from you to them, individual messages with thanks for coming to your DW wedding would be great. I'm not sure what the purpose would be if it was from them to someone else...

I have an idea of what it is going to say, in short:

    Jay & Wendy

    August 3, 2011

In this bottle, the gift of love is shared.

We have invited our closest friends and family

    To send this bottle away

In hopes that all who find this message

Will be as lucky as we are today

A love like ours is hard to find. Have patients, trust and faith; true love will soon come your way.

    Then a bible verse.

Again, they can do what they would like with it. I will not encourage them to litter of send it off.

You should let them write their wishes for you

I am having a beach wedding as well, if you are looking for a good price on the bottles try ordering them from http://www.sandartsupplies.com I used the bottles as save the dates. https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/diy-save-the-dates/fc63e89325524d83.html

I think you should use them as wedding favors for the guests with a personal message to each one. I am doing the seashell idea during cocktail hour while we are taking pictures my guests will write a message to us and at the end of the night toss them into the sea.

You know, I don't know how you are doing your guest book, but I just read in a magazine about something that would go along perfect with your theme! People had a really big bottle and had guests write on antique looking paper and put it in the bottle instead of a guest book! I thought it was such a cute idea but I am not having a beach wedding so it wouldn't go along with my theme lol

One of my friend sent it as invitation and every family and friends of her were really impressed with the idea and loved the bottles..It was a big hit on the event.
