Mermaid Dress Undergarments

Victoria, on February 28, 2011 at 5:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Hey Lovely Brides!

I need some help!

I am wearing a strapless, sweetheart neckline, Mermaid style dress for my upcoming May Wedding. I KNOW how form fitting these gowns are and have been working out nonstop since the day I bought it. I am pretty confident in the results I have had with my exercise, but I'm going to my first fitting in two weeks. I haven't purchased any undergarments or shapewear yet. I was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction of what/where to buy undergarments for my dress. Part of me doesn't want to do any shapewear but I just wanted to see what some of you ladies were planning on wearing with this style of dress. I want to look my best! Any help is appreciated as I need to buy something STAT!

Thanks!!!

I think you should wait for the fitting. See if you really need them, and see what your consultant recommends. Buy the undergarments you know you need (bra), and wait to see if all your hard work has paid off, and you aren't needing anything for shapewear!

I tried to find something that would work with my mermaid dress. The longline bra showed through, I tried spanx and brought them with me. I actually ended up going commando on the day (because my dress had a low back and the spanx just wasn't comfy to me)

I have been wondering the same thing. I'll keep an eye open on this post.

You might consider a seamless body shaper. Anything that fastens around your torso is likely to cause visible lines under a form fitting dress.... and there is always the option of wearing nothing if you have the confidence.

My dress is mermaid as well, but I do not have a sweetheard neckline, but the dress is strapless. So far, all I have is the long line bra and I bought a mermaid slip, that is going to flare the dress out more at the bottom. Wait for your fitting (mine is today!) and see what the alterations people say. You may not need any shapewear!

@Victoria: Thanks for asking the questions before I did. Smiley tongue I have the same dilemma as you. I was looking at my dress pics and I noticed made VPL (Visible Panty Line).
