Menu Choices: Entree duo, Buffet or Family Style??

Mel, on July 5, 2019 at 7:03 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
Hi everyone!

Just looking for some opinions here on how the meal should be served for our wedding. The package we chose allows for dinner to be served as a plated entree duo (everyone gets the sams two proteins on their plate - they do not get to select which one. The protein choices are chicken, beef, fish or pasta). We could also do family style or buffet. The price is the same no matter which we choose.

Right now I am leaning away from the plated entree duo because I know some people don’t like certain proteins (mainly fish) and would not want it on their plate or near the other food on their plate.

Family style seems be to getting everyone’s vote at this point but I wanted some other input. The venue is a very intimate setting, with rectangular farm tables. I’ll probably be seating 6-8 people per table (total of probably 45 guests) so I feel like family style *could* be done right. I guess I am just hesitant because I’ve really only ever been to plated weddings!

Thanks in advance!

Another vote for family style. You don't see it done often and I think it's really nice, if done properly. I tend to think that duet entrees are a waste and while buffets are totally fine, if a plated meal or family style is the same price, I would opt for a buffet last.

I vote family style as well. I was actually looking into this earlier we’ll have around 60 guests max) and found this website with pros and cons of all three: https://groovingourmets.com/the-pros-and-cons-of-plated-family-style-and-buffet-meals/amp/

Our venue only offered plated or buffet. I'm not sure if we can ask about family but we're leaning toward buffet

I’m all about the family style. It gives more options to everyone. People have different tastes and some even have allergies so this gives choices.

I know everyone here seems to be leaning towards family style but I don’t like it. As a guest I’d rather have my own plated dinner. But I think it really depends on the vibe you’re going for

Thanks everyone! I feel like we will ultimately end up doing family style....I think I just always assumed dinner would be plated with allowing the guest to make their own selection, but the venue was seriously too beautiful to pass up! In the end, I feel like people will be talking more
about the scenery than how the meal was served!

    Thanks again all!!!

So, I agree. Family style always sounds great but of all the events I've attended, the ones that are family style have the most waste because people want to be "polite" and not take too much of a dish. Even at a small event, even if everyone at a table casually knows each other, unless they're super close blood family, they'll be a little awkward about serving/passing.
