Menu cards - yay or nay?

We are having a buffet style dinner and my thoughts were with a menu card at their table, guest could get an idea of what they may want vs standing in line and pondering. Any thoughts on this anybody? Anyone done these and have some input?

Thanks! I honestly hated that my brother who also had a buffet didnt have a menu. I like to know what I'm eating. Plus I like the look of them. Good luck too and have fun with it!

You are so right! I am all about food! Going to anyones wedding I am totally most excited about the food. Which is why I am going all out with the buffet. I shifted my our budget to add really nice options to it. Everyone wants to eat good food! Have a beautiful wedding, dear!

    Lol, this!

Plus there just seems to be so much trash that comes after a wedding. Even if you recycle it all it just seems like such a waste.

I'm a big believer in less is more, and don't do work you don't have to. BUT... I'm going to make menu cards for my buffet as well - for loads of reasons. I love reading menus and planning what I'm going to eat, and enjoying food begins with reading the description. I mean, if you read "Bourbon butterscotch monkey bread with alderwood smoked bacon confetti" or "Slow roasted cedar plank salmon with mimosa cream sauce" or "Mini pancakes topped with melted triple creme brie and black peppercorn strawberry chutney", that's going to make your mouth water, right? In addition to the regular buffet I will have two action stations with all items made to order, so listing options may help folks plan.

I'm also undecided, but may include dietary information (if items are gluten free, dairy free, contain tree nuts, etc. - based on the known allergies of guests). What do you think - does that ruin the "art" of the menu?

I used those double sided frames from Ikea on each table. On one side there was a quote (we didn't have table numbers) and the other side listed the menu. It was easy/cheap to do, plus gave an opportunity to explain what the items were for those not super familiar with New Orleans food. So I'd say if you have items that are more complex than standard fare, it's worth it.

Haha...love your descriptions. Is that what you are serving, or did you just make that up?
If you go as far as dietary info, i would put an asterix behind it and explain in a footnote...sonit wont ruin your art!

It's some of what I'm serving as part of "brunch for dinner". I'm telling my friends to wear their stretchy clothes!

We are skipping them, I feel like weddings in the past that had them are kind of a waste of money.

I thought the same thing until I figured out how to do them myself. The etsy download and 50 pack of card stock from hobby lobby were $8. Some said its another thing to do, but right now I still have capacity and for $8 I thought it would add a nice touch.
