The caution would be not that people wouldn't show up, but that holiday weekends are popular! We're doing the Sunday of that same weekend and I had vendors tell me they were booked months ago. My photographer has another wedding Saturday and there was someone else in line for our day when we met with him in June.

Do you have a venue in mind? Many people choose to have their wedding over Memorial Day weekend because of the long weekend. Check with your VIPs first to get their thoughts. It also depends on if you're having a large or more intimate wedding. If you're having a large wedding I think you may get a little more regrets. But I would look into booking your venue first, to see if they're even still available Memorial Day weekend.

Also, would like to add - we planned a Labor Day Weekend wedding in six months. Our venue was having a "$1000 off ceremony March booking special" and all of the vendors we REALLY wanted to use were available. It's a lot of work but not impossible if you start working on it now Smiley smile

Hello may 26 Twinsie... I was actually shocked that the date was open at our venue and chose the date so that ppl from out of town would have an extra day to fly out.... hopefully I made the right choice.... Smiley winking

I personally would appreciate attending a wedding on a long weekend so I had the extra day to enjoy it, travel, recover, etc. If I were in your position I would call my VIPs and ask them their opinion about the date and make the final decision based on that info - if some of your VIPs will be away then that might mean you should look around for another weekend.

We chose labor day weekend because it is a long weekend and people won't have to ask off of work. We are having a destination wedding in Florida so they are still getting the "vacation" element.

Date twin!! We don't have a whole lot of out of town guests coming so that hasn't really been a issue for us but even for the ones that are coming we figured it would be nice because it'll give them an extra day to travel and spend time with their family members that live here. I went to a wedding this year on the Saturday of memorial weekend and didn't notice any difference in attendance. If you plan it far enough in advance, the ones who really want to come will make arrangements.

We did Memorial Day weekend this year and we didn't get many declines. People were happy because it was a long weekend. Many of our OOT guests loved that we had our wedding at a casino resort. They got rooms and had a mini getaway.

The only reason we charge more for Memorial Day is if the travel is going to be hellish.

That's the day of our wedding, but we're not too worried. I have our save the dates and plan to send them out a little earlier than normal to give everyone who would normally go out of town enough of a heads up!

Wow! thank you all so much for the advice! i have been thinking about it alot. Our venue is going to be in a park setting, more or less a DIY event. I like the idea idea of people having "an extra day". I have a small chunk of family oot, i am going to shoot them an email see what they say. i have requested info from a couple vendors and waiting for response and prices, and availability. Thank you all! i will keep posted as I am sure this won't be my only question Smiley smile

My wedding was this past May and we initially planned for the weekend of Memorial Day but we picked the weekend before. So we married the weekend between Mothers Day and Memorial Day. It worked out for us BUT if you haven't booked your venue yet and you're worried about it becoming an issue then you could consider changing the date if not I say keep it. Like you said its a year away and if your guests and/or wedding party want to be apart and share in your big day they'll be there!

We have the Sunday of memorial weekend planned. I haven't had any problems with family/friends saying anything about not coming due to other plans. For vendors, many are the same price as a regular Sunday would cost, nothing has been more expensive.

I think Saturday is perfectly fine. You may not get a few people who always travel for vacation during that time, but Average Joe will just do their cookout on Sunday, lol.

Personally, I really appreciate a holiday weekend wedding. It gives me time to get there and home without taking time off work or being exhausted on Monday from all of the travel.

A.L.C- I don't think Memorial Day weekend makes it more expensive. It definitely didn't for us. I also booked about a year, if not a little less than a year out and it was a wide open weekend.
