Meeting the parents

My forner college roommate who is from 🇬🇭 Ghana, told me that in her culture, one does not introduce a significant other to their parents until he/she is sure they want to marry. How long did you date your significant other until you met his/her parents?

I've always been slow to introduce significant others to my fam. It's just how my family works - the introductions are saved for someone you might marry. My fh is the same way. So, unless you count Zoom or FaceTime, we'll get married without having met most of each other's family. BUT, this is also largely due to geography and the pandemic. We live in a different state than all of my family, and what's left of his are in New Zealand where he's from. He met my parents about a year into dating - we knew we were serious but probably would've put the intro off longer except I was having back surgery and they all wanted to be there.

Nothing wrong with that. Many cultures wait until an engagement before the introductions.
