Medical Field: Do You Wear Your Ring To Work?

Christina, on March 19, 2017 at 11:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 38

Healthcare workers, do you wear your engagement ring to work? I notice some of my coworkers wear both their engagement ring and wedding band but some married women just wear their band. I bought a Qalo ring and have been wearing that on occasion since I don't want to wear my engagement ring since I'm constantly putting on/taking off gloves, washing my hands, etc. I think jewelry in general is an infection control issue. Just wondering what everyone else does that is newly engaged Smiley smile

I know you stated medical field specifically. I don't work in the medical field, but I decided to get the Qalo ring as well. I wear it to work especially when I know that i'll be heading to the gym right after.

I'm not in the medical field, but my mom is a nurse and she always wore both her rings to work and never had a problem, but things may be changing these days.

I wore my promise ring instead of my engagement ring at work. When I'm outside of work I wear my engagement ring.

I never wear my ring to work at the hospital as an RN. Mine sits a little high up so it's not too comfy with gloves anyway.

But also, the ring is expensive and with being around MRSA, Cdiff, changing patients and working with infections and sick patients, I don't wear mine! I'm used to not wearing rings at work anyway, so I just don't. I may wear just my band in the future, depending on what I get and as long as it's smaller.

I also never wear mine to the gym to work out..I feel like I will scratch it on weights, etc! I see a lot of girls wearing their nice rings to the gym, but sometimes I just feel like they want to show it off. I'd rather be safe and not wear it for certain situations. My fiancé is getting a QALO ring too to wear at work.

I just got an Enso ring to wear to work and I love it. It's so comfortable and I never have to worry about infection control or losing a diamond in a glove. It's also an antibacterial material which I like. I got the rose gold!

I wear my engagement ring now but often I have it pinned to my clothes or jacket during treatments and procedures. I will probably not wear it once I have a wedding band.

My FH is a police officer. I'm getting him a qualo ring. I might get one now too!

I wear mine, but it is a flat band style. Ladies with white gold and probably rose gold need to know that the alcohol hand sanitizer eats through the coating over time. I have had my rings dipped a few times already, thankfully we got the warranty from Helzberg.

PS I no longer do patient care but wore them when I did.

I have a knock off set to wear when I'm at work. If I loose it or it gets damaged I'm not out that much money.

I'm firmly with you in the infection control camp. I have a simple band that I have worn to work. My co-workers are fairly split but I'm seeing more people err towards just a band. Initially my hospitals new policy said absolutely nothing below the elbow (including watches and rings). They've relented on rings but I feel like there are just so many little crevices for bugs to sit in and I wouldn't want to damage it/lose it in a glove, etc. Better safe than sorry but I respect that everyone feels the need to represent their union in a way they see fit.

This'll sound silly, but on an episode of grey's, they safety pinned their rings to the inside of their scrub top. Best advice I've got since I'm not in the medical field or a job that I can't wear a ring.

I don't wear mine, not because of the safety of the ring, but because they can puncture gloves and become an infection control issue.

When I'm doing outpatient work, I'd be more inclined to wear them, though I'm not a huge ring-wearer anyway.

Nope. My diamond sits high so I don't want to accidentally yank it off with my glove or have it get loose. And you're right, you don't know what you're bringing home. Everyone is wearing the silicone rings now. I've got 10 different colors Smiley smile

ETA: for those who are RNs and clip it to your badge, you don't ever go home so tired that you forget pens, alcohol swabs, etc in your pockets and accidentally throw it in the hamper? Also, I work in ICU so we frequently are in and out of emergencies so it would take too much time to take off my ring and clip it. Gloves on, gloves off, wash hands---too many times.

I do wear my ring (I'm an RN) but plan to just wear the band when I get it. I've never had any problems with wearing it.

I'm a nurse and I wear my engagement ring every day. I have a Halo setting I don't worry much. When I'm wearing gloves I use a safety pin and attach my ring to my badge.

I wore mine when I first got engaged, but now I don't. When I took my ring to get appraised (the diamond was my fiancé's grandmother's), they had to dip it due to hand sanitizer rubbing off some of the white gold. Once I got it back, I decided I was done wearing it to work and school. Like others have said, I got a Qalo ring that I wear.

I'm an RN in the ER, I don't wear my e-ring to work. As someone else has mentioned, 50% split. Once we're married, I'll wear the band.
