Meal Ordeal

Dj Tanner, on June 28, 2020 at 9:38 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 27
Hi Ladies
Just wanted to get some input on the main entrees we’ve decided on.

Steak: Tuscan Filet - roasted garlic lemon Parmesan crust red wine pan sauce
Chicken: Chicken Cote D’Azur - stuffed with fontina prosciutto and pesto balsamic tomato sauce with balsamic reduction
Vegan/Vegetarian: still haven’t fully decided on this one… If anyone has opinions or ideas feel free to throw them at me! Was thinking possibly some sort of eggplant dish.
Fish: we have the option to do fish as well as the beef chicken and veggie, but it’s going to up all the plates an extra two bucks. Do you think I need a fish or is it prob not worth it? My main thing is that I just want everyone to like the food.

I would skip the fish! What you have is nice already

    I second Melle.
If you are providing a beef, chicken, and vegetarian option, you don’t need to incur the extra cost of adding the fish.

    Your mains sound absolutely delicious.

Beef and chicken are very safe options (we will probably be going with the same options ourselves) but variety is never a bad thing. If the cost to upgrade is minimal and you're happy to spend on it, I'd do it.

It will cost us $10-15 more per person to have an extra option or to give guests their own choice, but we couldn't justify $1200 for it.

Yeah, the main reason why I was thinking to add the fish was for some of the old people that can’t chew well LOL but From what it’s been sounding like lately I think most of them will be watching virtually because of Covid But I’m not 100% sure yet

I personally have no ideas for vegan/vegetarian meal options but people are normally content with steak and chicken for the most part. If it's not in your budget, I wouldn't add another dish if it's going to increase the price.

Yeah, I mean my main concern with having the fish was because the older people can’t really chew 😆, So I just dont want them to lose their teeth at the table or anything, haha but then we have a few friends that are also vegetarian/vegan so if it were up to me I wouldn’t have even had a vegetarian or vegan dish but we have to accommodate those guests

I would eliminate the fish option. You have enough to choose from between the other 3, and a simple eggplant parmesan or pasta dish would probably be just fine! Smiley smile

Does your venue/caterer offer options for just those with dietary requirements (so you don't need to have set options entirely) - as in the few people who have special requirements get a separate menu?

Skip the fish. You might have one or two people eat it which doesn't justify having the option.

As for vegan/vegetarian options, browse catering menus online and see what your caterer is able to make. We have a handful of vegans on our potential guestlist and none of them will touch eggplant. Any other vegetable mixture dish or Beyond Meat might work.

Not sure. I should probably check into that though. The Tuscan Filet is gluten-free and most of their vegetarian/vegan options also said gluten-free as well so not too worried about that. It was mostly just for the older people with the fish because I was worried that they wouldn’t be able to chew it lol

Yeah, they gave us a bunch of vegan options and vegetarian options and stuff but none of it sounds filling to me lol i’m definitely a meat eaterSo it’s hard for me to picture any vegetarian dish being hearty and appetizing

I completely understand that. Maybe ask one of your vegetarian guests what sounds appealing to them, and make sure they have plenty of appetizers and sides.

Depending on how it's cooked, older people in general tend to have more difficulty chewing beef than chicken or fish. But I wouldn't stress over that honestly.

Thanks! Yeah my fiancé picked out the chicken entrée. When I first read it I was like well maybe we should’ve gone with the chicken frandsche or however you spell it Because I was like well what if people don’t like pesto, But I think I’m just gonna risk it and go with that chicken dish. Everyone seems to think it sounds good so I don’t think there should be too many people who don’t like it

I also say skip the fish (the chicken & steak dishes sound awesome).

Eggplant Parmesan would be yummy! Ask if they can make gluten free (gluten-free breadcrumbs), to help any vegetarian with gluten issues. I just hope you don’t have any lactose-intolerant vegetarian guests (but that dish can be made without dairy).

I personally always get fish at weddings and other big events, so I’d be sad if there was no fish option, but if I was a guest at your wedding I would enjoy one of the other entrees you have picked. So that part is up to you. For us, we have a LOT of seafood eaters in our families, so we knew we had to have that option because more people will eat fish than anything else. If you don’t have that many fish eaters, then skip put on it.

As for vegetarian dishes, the eggplant parm is a pretty traditional go-to. Our venue does a stuffed portabella mushroom for vegetarians and vegans and they tailor it based on which one the person is (cheese vs. no cheese). They have some eggplant dishes as well and offer pasta, so there’s a good number of options out there.

I know! I can’t wait to try it. I picked that one out LOL, my fiancé picked out the chicken dish which I was a bit skeptical at first because I was like well what if people don’t like the prosciutto or pesto and I was thinking more of doing like chicken Frandsche‘s because it’s pretty simple And it’s basically just lemon, but I’ve been getting a lot of good reactions from the one my fiancé picked out so far so I think I’m just gonna go with it. But these vegans they are stumping me LOL, But someone that posted on here to suggest stuffed Portabella mushrooms which to me that seems like a hearty dish so I think I might go with that. It’s just so stressful, because if all else fails the only thing that I care about is that people enjoy the food and it’s so hard to make everyone happy.
