Max age for ring-bearer?

Alabaster, on September 6, 2013 at 7:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

My nephew is an 8th grader and I'd like to incorporate him in the wedding somehow. I was thinking he could be the ring bearer but my mother says he's too old for that; she seems to think that's for little boys. Anyone have any insight on if age of ring bearer really matters? (My 12 year old niece and cousin will be flower girls despite fact my mom said they are too old for that too!) If my nephew doesn't do that I wont have a ring bearer although I guess you don't really need one. He could hand out programs or be an usher. Would love your thoughts on this. Thanks!

Ask him if you don't care. Most boys probably wouldn't want to be a ringbearer at 12 but my cousin did at 15 and was totally happy. Depends on the kid and the wedding.

I think 13 or 14 is way too old for a ring bearer. He might say yes just because he doesn't want to hurt your feelings. I think an usher would be best. Why don't you give him the options and see what he would prefer?

If your fine with it and he's fine with it, than do it. It's your wedding. You can do whatever you want.

I don't think it matters. I've seen them all over the age scale.

I don't see a problem with him being the ring bearer. He may not be keen on the pillow idea, but I'm sure you can work out something that works.

like a fancy box for him to carry maybe?

When I think ring bearer I think 10 and under. I like the suggestion or giving him option of that or usher and seeing what he would like

Personally I think RBs are much cuter when they're little, but you do whatever makes you happy! FH has a little brother who is 11 and he is going to be an usher. There's no way he would want to be a RB; he'd make some comment about that being for babies or something if I were to ask him. As an 8th grader he would probably enjoy a more "grown up" role in the wedding. I know I wouldn't have wanted to be a FG when I was in 8th grade.

My son will be 8 when FH and I get married, and he is absolutely ecstatic about being our ring bearer. Typically, I would consider 8 or 9 a cutoff for it though, honestly. If you ask and he's okay with it though, then why not?
