Matron AND maid of honor?

Graciela, on October 25, 2017 at 10:15 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

So my child hood best friend is going to get married a few months before me and I am her maid of honor so of course she's going to be mine BUT I also have another close best friend who has been the one helping me the most throughout this whole wedding planning. Since my best friend will be married by the time my wedding comes around I was thinking of making her my Matron of honor and having my other best friend as the maid of honor. Then I feel like I defeats the whole purpose of a maid of honor... Any thoughts?

My sister in law is getting married in a few weeks. Our SIL is her Matron of honor and her best friend for 20 years is her maid of honor. My sister did the same thing. She had 2 MOHs. One was her best friend for 15yrars, the other was a co-MOH. Nothing wrong with having 2.

I had both and I'm glad I did it that way. I got to honor the two closest people to me.

Yes I do, it'll be a total of 6. So it'll either be a Matron of Honor and 5 bridesmaids or a Matron of honor, a maid of honor and 4 bridesmaids.

That is exactly what I am having: a maid of honor, matron of honor and 4 bridesmaids.

If that would make you happy, then yes you can do that. But you do not have to have her as a matron of honor just because you were her MOH.

Thanks everyone! I would love to have them both but I feel like my Matron of honor is going to be a little upset since she won't feel as special but it is my day.

It's actually pretty common to see both.

I had three in my bridal party. Matron of Honor, Maid of Honor, and Man of Honor. I think it's fine.

I had 3 bridesmaids. One was a matron of honor, one a maid of honor and then a bridesmaid. Other than the two honors giving speeches literally nothing was different about them. They equally participated in planning shower/bachelorette and they all had the same dress/flowers. Only thing I did different was my matron of honor I gave a different bracelet and earrings to wear than the other two girls.
