Matching Vest & Tie

When we went to MW to figure out what he (and groomsmen) is going to wear... the guy actually suggested a silver/ivory vest with black tie for him and the groomsmen have matching tie/vest.

So.... that's what we're doing. lol

Like most fashion-related choices, a lot depends on the level of formality and your personal style. Contemporary Vs traditional, formal Vs casual and everything in between.

Our guys.wore black vests white ties and the groom wore white vest and black tie...it looked neat

See i LOVE the skinny tie look, but as you can see he has no vest on. what to do what to do?

The groomsman will be wearing black Tux, ivory shirt, Olive Vest, Olive Paisly Tie if that helps any.

This page shows the same guy with different vest/tie combos. Not really loving the Ivoy/Black combo, personally.

I have a ? Is the groom supposed to be wearing different than GM? ex. our GM are wearing purple shirt, silver vest & tie. No tux jacket. FH will wear same but add tux jacket. Is that ok, or is he supposed to be different, like instead of above, he wears silver shirt, purple vest?

As far as I know, the groomsmen match the bridesmaids and the groom is supposed to match the Bride. But, I'm concerned about the vest being ivory and a black skinny tie not following the matching vest/ tie rule of thumb.

Ashley: if the shirts are ivory, the ivory vests might make it too neutral, IMO. Like blending in too well. But as far as ivory vest & black tie, black goes with anything, dont worry about that clashing.

Masquerade, it's totally up to you. We did the "groom matches bride, GMs match BMs" thing when it came to their vest/tie, but there's no hard/fast rule about it. Whatever is going to be visually pleasing to you works. Remember you have bouts and bouquets to add pops of color too, if you want. It doesn't always have to be a total color combo package with just the attire.

To me it's notsomuch the color, I just feel like the shape of the skinny tie and the vest don't go together, they seem like very different looks to me as one is traditional and one is really modern? But that's just me. Maybe I can't visualize it.

I say just play around with the options they have in the store and see what YOU like.

Have you tried going to Al's Formal Wear .com. Even if you don't have one near you it will still be helpful because they have a build your own tux feature. That way you can see what it looks like both ways, post pictures for your friends, and make a decision that way. That's what I did and it was very helpful.

The groom is wear a black shirt with a purple tie and vest and the gms are wearing a purple shirt with a silver tie and vest.
