Match colors for Sil's wedding? Not in wedding party, will be in pics

So Confused By Colors, on February 12, 2022 at 1:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

My SIL is getting married in May and my MIL just told me the colors (cream and sage). I'm not in the wedding party but am expected to be in pictures (husband is also not in the wedding party). Do I need to match/complement her colors so I don't stick out or clash in pictures? Is it weird if I do since I'm not in the wedding party? I don't want to get mistaken for a bridesmaid. SIL has been anal about literally everything but MIL hasn't been able to get a straight answer out of her on this. Husband has declared that he is wearing his navy suit, colors be damned, do I match him instead?

Since you have not gotten a clear answer, despite explicitly asking, you can wear whatever you want. The choice is yours. If it was me, I would plan on wearing something in the same color family as sage, probably a darker shade like olive greeb, so you fit in but are also not matching the bridesmaids. That darker green would also look good with navy.

You may still be able to get an answer from you SIL before may though!

If neither you or your husband is in the wedding, you should wear whatever you’d like. I wouldn’t match the wedding colors if you’re not in the wedding.

What would you wear if you were a regular guest who was not in formal family pictures? Go with that. Don’t try to match anyone because you are not a bridesmaid.

I wouldn’t try to match the colors of the wedding since you are not part of the bridal party. I would just wear something that matches/compliments your husband’s attire.

I personally would find it thoughtful if people toned in with the wedding colours for photos, but I get that other people may be offended, so I think just to be safe, I'd probably wear something that wouldn't clash TOO badly, but wouldn't necessarily match. Like, a dusty blue would look nice with the navy suit and tone in with sage, as would a soft rose, lilac or turquoise. I wouldn't wear like, a screaming scarlet or neon orange or anything, basically.

I would just go with something pretty neutral so it looks good in pictures and with your husband. Khaki, gray, olive, dusty blue, etc.

Neutral colors are probably a safe bet but if you want to wear wedding colors, go with a floral or other pattern with the colors in it so its obvious you are not a bridesmaid.
