Master of Ceremony?

Brittney, on October 30, 2017 at 3:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 30

I have been in a couple weddings this year and they did not have a master of ceremony. My FMIL has been telling me all about how her brother does a great job and how he would love to do it. Has anyone had a master of ceremony and can tell me anything about it?

Honestly, I don't know how a stand alone MC would work; are you using an IPOD?

I have never seen this happen, honestly.

A master of ceremony is going to keep everything organized and do the announcements for the important dances and stuff. I had my friend help us out. I think they are important.

Generally your hired DJ would also MC the night.

If there is no DJ are you just using an iPod? You really should have someone directing the flow of the night with announcements, but it shouldn't be a guest or family member. Do you have a coordinator for your wedding?

I've heard of it, but never actually seen one used. "Master of ceremonies" is super old school: modern DJ's and sometimes officiants usually take over the rule of ushering people through the "pieces" of the day. It's called and "MC" for short. I've never been to a wedding that had any kind of MC that wasn't done by the DJ.

FYI, OP - the MC does the entire day, not just the ceremony. Unless your ceremony is really complicated, guests shouldn't need announcements made during that time.

Yes. We had her announce the dances, the cocktail hour, when to get dinner, stuff like that.

You don't need an MC during the ceremony. DJ will be your MC during the reception which is the only time you need it. If you aren't having a DJ or band for your reception, than talk to the venue's coordinator to see if he/she will handle. Don't use a guest.

If you're hiring a dj, they will typically do it. But make sure.

If you're talking to me, I was talking about the reception. Sorry if you're confused. You don't have to be rude.

No, Sara, I was talking to Brittney, who said she wants a "master of ceremonies" because she doesn't have a DJ during her ceremony. Which makes no sense.

Brittney, "master of ceremonies" is just a person who acts as a host for an event, making announcements and such. It has nothing to do with your wedding ceremony. If you have a DJ for your reception, they should be doing this job.

I don't think you need an MC for your ceremony, I feel like your officiant is essentially the MC of the ceremony by leading everyone through it. Your DJ should be able to handle your reception.
