Massages as bridesmaids gifts?

mstewart986, on November 23, 2009 at 2:06 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

I figured I'd give them something I know they could all enjoy and I know a lady who will do at home massages for $65 an hour. Anyone else think this is a good idea?

That's actually what I was going to do as a gift for my bridesmaids and groomsmen.....just something relaxing for both parties and something that they both could enjoy....

I hadn't considered it but my FSIL is a massage therapist and I know she'd give me a break on the price. She has a massage room set up in her home and she also has a portable table. She's given me massages for $25! :o) I'll have to ask her about it.

This is a FABULOUS gift. I gave a massage certificate to my sister as a MOH gift and wish I could have given myself one too! I guess just make sure your girls don't have weird issues with people touching them or whatnot. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I have some female friends who will not get a massage because they don't want a stranger to touch them.

Yada I agree. Like I would never offer that to my mom b/c she has "issues". LOL!

I am doing something very similar. I am planning my own spa/bachelorette party. I will have a massage therapist, aesthetician and nail tech. I am all of those myself so I have traded so my girls and I will be covered. I was also thinking of doing some trades so that all the other gals can have a service on me. Then they can pay the therapists if they want something else. We will do 25 minute mini massages, facials, manis and pedis. Yada is right about some people not liking or afraid of being touched. As a LMT I always suggest chair massage or a hand and foot massage if they are weirded out by the idea.

A few years ago I was in a friend's wedding. The day before, she took all of the bridal party to a spa for mani/pedi and a 1 hour message each. As I had just arrived from out of town that morning I thought it was absolute,y heavenly!!

I like that idea, but other brides I've spoken to said it was the worst thing they could have done b/c they were just too relaxed?! (go figure) So, I'm thinking of just giving them facials, pedi & manicures - me included!

I think it's an excellent suggestion! My fiance loves massages, so I'm planning on surprising him with an appointment for one for the morning of the wedding. Me? I'm one of those people with "issues" about being touched by strangers. That and I'm so ticklish that I don't find them relaxing at all. Smiley smile

This is a great idea, but I will give a bit of advice (just from being a therapist, I hope you are not offended or anything). If that price does not include the tip, include the tip in the price. A lot of therapists where I work know that when they have a client in on a gift certificate, they will not get a tip. The card only covers the massage typically, and people usually will not add on a tip because this was a gift why should they spend money on it?

So yeah, hope you don't mind that. I just had to give the other point of view on here, which I hope will help anybody thinking of doing this.
