Married out of the country

Melissa, on January 7, 2020 at 4:37 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5
So my fiancé and I have been given the opportunity to go to Florence Italy for 3 weeks this September. We’ve been flirting with the idea of a small intimate wedding there and after doing some research I feel more confused on the laws of who to hire, U.S. Embassy ect. We have a villa already rented so finding a place isn’t the issue, it’s the paper work. Has anyone done this, having an over seas wedding ect? Haaallllp

I have a few friends that have gotten married in Italy. They all had to get legally married at the courthouse here before they went and then have a symbolic ceremony there.

If I were you I would do the legal piece here in the US and do a symbolic ceremony there so not mess things up.

I had a friend that got married in another country and she had to get married legally here first. I think that is probably the easiest way to do it in order to avoid any potential problems.

Hey there, Melissa! Italy for 3 weeks, I’m jealous!

I’m afraid the laws are quite complicated and as the PPs mentioned, most people opt to get married in a courthouse in the US first and then have a symbolic ceremony abroad. Do you think this would work for you and your FS?

Thanks for everyone’s input. I think we’re going to do that and get married here first.
