Married Ladies: Did they step on your dress?

Kelsey, on September 17, 2014 at 1:13 PM

Did your train or dress get stepped on at the reception? I was just looking at my dress trails out a bit and our reception is in tight quarters. Has anyone ever had a "pinned down by a foot" moment?

    Yes!

I had mine bustled but it still dragged a little in the back and people, often my DH, were stepping on it. Fortunately my bustle held up just fine and I didn't have to worry about it falling apart.

The funniest though was at the ceremony when the officiate introduced us as husband and wife. We walked up to the front from the signing table and right when I get there DH is on my dress and I can't get fully turned to the front. I had to say something and there are pictures of me leaning over to him and saying "You're on my dress!"

No rips or holes or malfunctions though. I like to think I picked a good dress.

Kristine, that's the sweetest thing I've ever heard. I know it's technically about a fight, but just hearing that he called her that is so adorable!

At two of the three weddings I went to in the last year, the bride's train was stepped on and ripped. For one of them I spent 10+ minutes in the bathroom with the bride using a pocket sewing kit and attempting to sew the bustle back up (screw the buttons- we were little sewing the dress to itself so she could go back to the party!). At another, the bride's VERY long train came down after the groom stepped on it during the first dance. She spent the entire evening with the train draped over her arm. Those experiences basically mean I am looking for a dress without a train- they are gorgeous but the hassle when it comes down isn't worth it to me!

Yep! It got at least 2 high heels through it and I stepped on it a couple of times. I ripped two bustle hooks while swing dancing with Andre (my BM pinned me back together). By the end of the day, my dress had holes, dirt, and even what looked like some blood from the sidewalk during formals (could have been juice or something I guess). I didn't care at all though. Looking at it, you couldn't tell. And I bought the dress to have a good time in! You only get to wear it once!

Yes. My friend's two girls (around ages 6 and 8) were clowning around in front of me during a group photo and stomped repeatedly on my gown. I was pissed but smiled on. My husband also kept yanking on the veil whenever he put his arm around me for photos, but it didn't fall off. Unless no one gets near you at all throughout the night, expect your gown to be stepped on and dusty at the bottom.

This is one of the reasons I wore tea-length. I was in the clear!

I'm with MIss Koch-- DH/I stepped on the hem during the first dance, but after that it was all fast dances, so I just picked it up to keep it out from under my feet. I didn't notice anyone else stepping on it.

I read in another post earlier today that someone's advice was that the dirtier, torn and beaten up your dress is the more fun you had at your reception. I don't think that really applies to everyone but its a cute sentiment so say, it doesn't matter don't worry about your dress all night just enjoy your day and the amazing party that you threw!

Yes, DH stepped on my dress and it ripped when we were taking pictures with a big group towards the end of the night. You couldn't see it though, and my mom had it fixed when she took it to be cleaned and preserved.

Yep, a few times, but it didn't matter. You only wear the dress once anyway. It's really nothing to worry about when you're dancing the night away.

I don't know how many people stepped on my dress...lol.

It got to a point where my greeting (mb a lil drunk as the night wore on) was "get the hell offa my dress!!!" But then laughing afterwards..lol

I had DH's 5 and 7 year old nephews playing chasey around me while my dress was unbustled for photographs and I was still wearing my chapel length Italian silk veil. I grabbed them both, pulled them close and sweetly told them that if they stood on my dress and veil again I was going to break a plate over their heads.
