Marriage license for ca

niseirn, on September 24, 2019 at 2:49 PM Posted in California Planning 0 9
I'm wondering if anyone is getting married in CA but is an out of state bride. That's my situation. Is there a wait time for when you can get married after obtaining the marriage license? We won't be able to present in person at the same time at the County Clerk office until a couple days before our wedding. Our wedding is on Sunday and we fly in on Friday. Will this be an issue, other than cutting it very close.

There is no wait time to get married once you get your license and the license is valid up to 90 days.

Hi Nancy, Make sure you have absolutely everything when you go that you may need to get your marriage license, you walk out with it same day and must use it within 90 days. Do the application online first, you have 15 days from the timed you do the application to pick up the certificate, also do it as soon as you land they stop taking people after 3ish pm.

There's no wait time in California so it shouldn't be an issue. Just a piece of advice, though, there are two kinds of licenses in California. Don't get the "private" one. It became a massive pain in the butt when I tried to get a copy of my first marriage license because we had gotten a private license. At the time it was convenient because we got married in Lake Tahoe and didn't have to go to the clerk. Because a massive headache when I had to order a copy from El Dorado County.

You both must be present to obtain the license. Fill out the application beforehand and make sure the recorder’s office is open as each location varies

I think this depends on the county, ours issued marriage licenses until 4:30 pm!

It might, but since she's flying it that day and needs to pick it up for that weekend I wouldn't take a chance.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! We will apply online ahead of time and will be making an appointment. As soon as we land at the airport, we plan to go to the county clerk office. I told my FH that I do not want to wait until the afternoon to go, don't want to risk not being able to get our marriage license!
