Marquise ring and nursing

soontobemrs, on June 12, 2017 at 2:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

So my boyfriend and I have been talking engagement for some time and the ring we both have fallen in love with is a marquise style ring but I am in nursing school and wondering if anyone has one and experienced a lot of problems ripping gloves and if I should see if we can find one that I love that's a different shape.. I'm just worried I won't be able to wear it at work.

It doesn't matter what shape the diamond is to be totally honest. It is all in the way the diamond is set. A night cathedral setting with exposed prongs puts you at greater risk for ripping gloves and if not properly cleaned can harbor bacteria.

I'm a nurse and e-ring shape/size was a huge concern for me. Especially since I knew I wouldn't ever want to take it off! Haha My FH and I talked about getting married lots but he picked out the ring with a surprise proposal all on his own. My ring is a three diamond with round settings. I love it! It sits semi flat and still snags on gloves every once in a while. Especially if I'm doing something delicate and wear a smaller size glove. I can't imagine being able to do that with a different setting. Just pay attention to how the edges are and exactly how far off your finger the top of the diamond is.

Also, what type of nursing do you want to do? I work with newborns and anything that stood out a lot could potentially scratch them. Definitely wouldn't work out for me.

Any higher-profile rings will likely get caught, no matter what shape it is. I have a princess-cut, and the prongs get caught on things all the time.

A lower-profile or bezel setting should be fine.

I tend to wear larger gloves to prevent rips as well. The nitrile gloves are more giving than other brands.

This is what I have ordered but with a cushion cut. I actually tried on gloves with the sample ring on in the store because I have the same worry. I am a CRNA.

My mom has a marquise ring, and she didn't have any problems with it working as a pediatric RN. I'd think it would probably depend on the size of the stone and the setting though - and that for any cut, really.

One of my daughters is a CCU nurse and has a halo marquis engagement ring. She does not wear it to work. She plans to have a plain wedding band for work, or maybe a silicone one, because we all know you nurses get your hands in things you don't want your rings in!

My FH got me a high setting and at first I was scared to wear it. It does snag on everything but I've learned how to adjust it so I can prevent it. I def would take my ring off if my patient was crashing. ICU RN.

When I was in nursing school we couldn't wear rings with large/more than one stone- had to be a solitaire or simple band. I honestly never thought I would, but I bought an Enso ring for work and I loove it. It's super comfortable, doesn't harbor bacteria, and I don't worry about popping through a glove.

My BSN program was no rings period unless it was a plain band. MSN it was game on with any ring.

This is the profile he originally picked it out and wanted my opinion and I fell in love but my mom (who is also a nurse) is telling me I should see if we could find something different so I am just concerned

My ring has only popped one glove, but I usually slide the ring off center a little. It can be a little bit uncomfortable. I also do wear small gloves, so if it really became a problem I could go up a glove size, but the mediums hang off my fingers and I lose dexterity. I've included a side view of my ring so you can see how high it sits off my finger. While I was waiting for my ring to be completed I was wearing a temporary ring that was a little bit too big, and while it never popped the glove either, it was very uncomfortable even though the setting was smaller. So I think the fit of the ring itself is also important to the comfort when wearing it under gloves. ETA: I'm a microbiologist, not a nurse, so our jewelry policy is only one ring allowed and it has to be a wedding ring, but my boss allows e-rings

I would get the ring that you love and wear it to and from work and have a silicone band that you wear at work. My ring has an almost absurd amount of diamonds, and I don't want one to fall out so that's what I plan on doing.

I can wear mediums but I learned to hike the fingers up so I can feel for IV's and other fun stuff we get to do.

I had a marquise previously and it always ripped my gloves at work. This time around, I have an emerald cut which sits lower, and I have no problems at all.

It probably depends on the hospital but I work for the Cleveland Clinic and we can only have plain bands. Why don't you get the ring you love and either get a plain band or qualo band to wear to work?

I'm In nursing school and only wear my ring to class NOT clinicals. It stinks to not wear 24/7, but with all the contaminants you will come in contact with, it will be worth it to leave at home! I will wear my wedding band to work after I get married. Smiley smile

Daniella they do not enforce the plain band policy at clinic at all. Take a look at Kelly's rings when she rounds. Walk through the J building ICU's and you will see plenty of diamond engagement rings.

On mobile so photo quality is probably crap but I'm also a nursing student and I wore mine during clinicals, never had any glove ripping issues. The diamond is risen but flat so I think that helps
