Marquee Letters

Amy & Dan, on April 6, 2015 at 1:30 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17

I have fallen in love with the idea of having a marquee LOVE sign at the reception. However, they are so expensive! I am looking for large ones (2-3 ft tall) to put on our stage. Does anyone know where to rent them? I have also looked up DIY tutorials and saw some using the cardboard letters at Joann's or Michael's. I would be up for making them, but I was wondering if anyone has done so before? I feel like it would be a fire hazard using cardboard lol. Any thoughts?

They actually sell them at Michael's. I believe they're like $30 a piece, but they always have coupons.

We are making ours, outdoor string lights + metal letters from Hobby Lobby. Once they are done I will post them.

They are very pretty. globe string lights with that sign would look amazing! I think you can find them for sale on etsy.

I also seen them at Marshalls... but for about $30 but they probably won't have all the letters to spell it or you might go to several stores.

Michaels just had a sale on them, they were 40% off and then 20% on top of that, I got LOVE for around $30.

They also sell these at Hobby Lobby - not sure how much they are tho, they sell a variety of different kinds.

I saw the metal LOVE marquee sign at Michael's here in Canada at half-off for about $30. I wanted our initials though, so I bought small Heidi Swapp cardboard marquee letter kits from Michael's and made them myself. They were also half-off, so maybe $15-20 per letter when I bought them? Plus I wanted them covered in moss, so I bought that and glue, too. All in all, two letters and an ampersand, moss and glue was about $75 total… my first and only DIY, haha

I have seen a lot of people make them from cardboard on youtube. As for the actual letters, I am putting large papermache letters at our alter. I am not going to turn mine into marquees cause I have an outdoor day time wedding.

But I think they would work great for marquees. I got them from ConsumerCrafts.com. They are just shy of 2 feet tall. They are $8.75 a letter.

I think they would be great as marquees. I would cut the back out, push the lights through and Then attach flashing to the sides to finish them.

Thanks everyone. I am looking for large ones (2-3 ft tall), but can only find smaller ones at the craft stores. Etsy has a ton, but they are like $200/letter.

See if you have a local wood shop that would be willing to cut the letters for you. We are having the same letters and found a dyi person that makes wood signs that was willing to make each letter 3 ft for a low cost. I'm not sure if he ships though. We plan to add the lights and siding to them ourawlvesourselves.

I made a sign with a frame and everything. It was pretty labour intensive, but turned out very nicely. If you use LED lights there's no fire hazard.

Amy, the letters I bought are 2 feet tall. I'll send you a picture when I get home. They are mid project though, just painted them this weekend.

I know it's possible to rent them, but it would just depend on your area. my friend rented some for her wedding in philly. 'cuz yeah, they're super expensive. i bought one letter off etsy and while it's great quality, it was super expensive. even on sale. lol.

try googling event rentals and your area. or marquee rental or anything else you can think of.
