    Hey Monique! There are a few factors to consider when figuring out timing for sharing save the dates and invitations with your guests:

    Let's start with a wedding that is considered "local," meaning it's in a town where you or a majority of your guests reside, this could be your or your S.O.'s hometown and/or the city you currently live. For an October wedding, standard invitation etiquette is to send save the dates between five and eight months from your wedding date. If you have your venue contract signed and a date locked in for October 2020, you can go ahead and send your save the dates now, or within the next couple of months! Also keep in mind, 10.10.2020 is the most popular day to get married this year, and October historically is a very busy wedding month, so you'll want to get your date on the radar of your nearest and dearest ASAP. For wedding invitations, standard etiquette dictates sending them out about 7-8 weeks ahead of the wedding date, and you'll want your RSVP by date to be for about 3 weeks ahead of your wedding so you'll have sufficient time to work on seating charts, escort cards, etc;

    If you're hosting a destination celebration that requires all (or nearly all) your guests to book travel and accommodations, it's a good rule to share the save the dates as soon as you lock in your venue, even if it's a year out. This gives guests sufficient time to plan their travels. Using a wedding website is also a GREAT tool to share additional details with guests ahead of sending out invitations, really regardless of if the wedding is local or destination. For destination wedding invitations, we recommend sending those 3-4 months ahead of the wedding, so in June or July for an October wedding.

    I personally always prefer to error on the side of caution, giving people more time than they may need. Also, since today is National Wedding Planning Day, our friends at Elli , a small but mighty talented team of wedding paper and invitation designers, are providing WeddingWire users with an exclusive 20% discount any orders placed now through the end of the month with code "NWPD20". Check them out and get started on those save the dates and invites soon! Smiley smile Best of luck! xo

    Hi Tammy! No problem, when anyone gets started with planning any big event (especially a wedding) it feels like there's a million things to do, and while there are a lot of decisions to be made, you have plenty of time and together we'll get it done, one thing at a time! Smiley smile

    I can relate to things falling through; last summer my fiancé and I thought we had found the perfect venue. We had an agreement with them, a date locked in, pricing and catering details picked out. Three months later (and 9 months before the wedding agreed upon wedding date) they pulled out of the agreement. I was DEVASTATED. And, like you, quite frustrated and back at square one. I let myself wallow for a day, and then got right back to planning. I was also definitely feeling the pressure, since in theory, I had less than a year to plan now. Fast forward six months, and here we are...we have a beautiful venue in a similar area with amazing owners that we love working with to plan our day. We did have to change our date, but all in all, I think it worked out for the best!

    Where are you at with wedding planning today? The first decision you need to make is finding a venue. Picking your venue will lock in your wedding date and set the tone and vibe for many of your other details. Having a date will also allow you to start reaching out to other vendors. Once you have your venue locked in, we recommend booking your photographer. Photos are what you'll have to remember the whole experience, so you want to hire a pro whose style and aesthetic you love, fits within your budget, and is available for your date.

    Let's start with what you have done so far, and from there, we can figure out where to go next -- talk soon!

    Well I started looking at venues but so far three that I have seen are over our budget so we are back at square one with that. We have a date but we may have to move it up a day. And that's about it I'm so lost at this point but if you can help I know I'll be ok.

    Venue shopping can be tricky! Some venues are very bare bones, which usually means they're relatively inexpensive but you'll have to bring in other rentals to make up for what's not available and those costs can add up quickly. Other venues provide EVERYTHING from the furniture rentals and linens to catering and bar services. And then many venues fall somewhere in between. So, when you're chatting with venues make sure you're getting the full picture of what's provided. Also, make sure the venues are being upfront with all costs. Occasionally they'll be service fees and additional taxes not listed on the price sheets they provide, so you'll want to ask. When selecting a venue it's also important to consider what kind of person you are--do DIY projects and logistics excite or terrify you? Are you looking for an easy, turnkey celebration? Or would you rather shop around for different vendors to hire to bring into the venue of your choice?

    Definitely make sure you're getting a full picture of what the venue provides and how that will impact your budget. And also be realistic with the types and amount of DIY projects you'd want to do. For me, I'm all about designing and making my own decor items. I have a friend getting married the same day as us and with a very similar budget who, on the other hand, is happy to just hire a team to make all the decisions and pick out the details for her.

    Also, have you pulled together your guest list? Knowing the number of guests you plan to invite will dictate the venues you can even consider based on max capacity. You may also want to consider venues that are outside the box--think local restaurants, warehouses or factories, farms, museums. Think about what story you want to tell about you and your fiance and how a venue could potentially reflect that. Maybe your first date was at a taco bar--save on catering with a tacos and tequila reception dinner! Perhaps you both love art--host your celebration at the local art museum (bonus: you'll save on decor!).

    Feel free to DM me with any specifics regarding your location, desired style, budget, theme and love story--I'd be happy to help you!

    Today is the first day I feel well after having the flu and I didn’t even realize it was a special wedding planning day today. Which is great since my first day feeling better is also the day me and my fiancé decided to call our first choice wedding venue. Now we’re really excited and looking forward to our wedding next March!

    Yes. Our wedding will be at Our Lady of the Seas in Buxton and the reception at the Inn at Pamlico Sound in Buxton across from the Hatteras lighthouse.
