Mani/Pedi - Include the Bridesmaids?

FutureMrsD, on February 25, 2015 at 8:48 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

My fiancé bought me a mani/pedi package to a super swanky day spa with the idea that I would use it for the wedding (and I am so excited to use it!). I had originally planned on going to get my nails done with my bridesmaids and the MOB/MOG, but this spa is at least twice as expensive as anywhere I've ever had my nails done. All of my bridesmaids are either students or stay-at-home moms so money is a concern, and I can't afford to pay for their mani/pedis. What should I do? I could invite them all to come with me but don't want them to feel bad if they can't afford it, especially if one or two of them end up feeling excluded if they can't join everyone. Or should I just enjoy a couple of hours of pampering on my own (maybe with my mom?) and ask the bridesmaids to just have neutral of French manicures before the big day?

Thanks for your advice!

First...I think that was super sweet of your FH! Personally, I would see if the package could be used another time, like maybe your birthday or your mom's (and take her with you as well) and spend the wedding day with your BMs...you said yourself, its pretty expensive and they are probably already putting out some money to stand up in your wedding, so I wouldn't ask them to dish out anymore.

Use the package another time, and spend the wedding day with your BMs, MOB, and MOG. Maybe use the package a few weeks before the wedding to relax and prep your nails so they are nice and healthy.

I went with just my mom and sister (MOH) for my mani-pedi. I thought it was nice to have some quiet time with them. But then again my bridesmaids were all from out of town so none of them would have felt excluded.

    Thanks for your responses!

I talked to my mom as well as a non-bridesmaid girlfriend about this, and they both thought it would be a good idea to get my nails done using the gift certificate 2 days before the wedding (with shellac so it won't chip), then the day before I can still go with my bridesmaids while they get their nails done, drink some champagne and have a good time, and maybe get a massage or something to still participate with them. I might even buy each of the bridesmaids a 15 minute massage (only $15). What do you think about that idea?

@FutureMrsD You could also get your nails done at the fancier place like you say and when you go with your bridesmaids get your toes done!!

I think your idea is a good compromise!

I'm the odd one out, I guess - I would totally go by myself and enjoy some solitude before everything got crazy. Maybe you could meet them for brunch or something instead.

Really sweet gift from your finance! I would call the spa and ask if you can apply the amount toward another service, like a massage. If not, just go and pamper yourself! Definitely don't ask your girls to go, especially since its expensive. I am requesting my girls wear french or beige/pink neutral polish on their nails and toes. I know a couple will go get their nails done, but most of them will do it themselves, which is fine with me!

@annakay511 I LOVE your idea! I called the spa and they will definitely allow me to use it for a massage. Sounds like the perfect pre-wedding treat and I can still get my nails done with the girls. I'll run it by my fiance to make sure he's ok with it but I'm sure he will be. Thanks so much!

I went by myself a couple of days before the wedding (before everyone came to town). I didn't want my girls to stress about any extra expenses (all they had to cover was their $60 dress). The night before they painted their own nails in the hotel room.

I haven't decided what I'll do, but I know my sister did her mani-pedi alone. She said it was the best decision she ever made--gave her a few hours away from all the craziness, where she could just relax.

I'm with Lauren. I would go by myself and give them each a gift cert for them to go on their own time. It may be hard to get peoples schedules to match up.
