Male bridesmaid?

UnrulyBride, on January 27, 2009 at 7:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

One of my best friends is a guy and I would love to have him stand up for me at my wedding. He is nowhere near as close to my FH, so I wouldn't want to push him on my FH as a groomsman. Would it look weird to have several female bridesmaids and one male? He is an important part of my life and I would like him to have an important part in my wedding. Any suggestions?

I've done weddings like this - its charming & awesome to your honour attendants be people you adore & who adore you, rather than using whomever will like best in the photos!

In this case, the Bride's brother walked up alone as any attendant would, took his place on the left & then recessed with the flower girls.

I think it is a wonderful idea and have done this before with 3 other brides...actually within the past 2 years. This is an important position and is all about the friends who love and care about you the most. Communication is key, so be sure to discuss this with your fh and let him know how you feel. I'm certain it will all turn out beautifully and you will be very happy you did ask him to be a part of this cherished day!

I did exactly that! I have a male best friend and if it wasnt for him me and my husband would never have lasted to get married! No one thought it strange at all, and even tho he is a Special Ops Military, he had no problem at all. It took him 2 seconds to say yes. Now that my Hubby and I are renewing our vows, he is actually standing up on my husband's side this time, because they have become so close after that! I would definitely do it if you feel it. I had him and 4 bridesmaids. I had them orders as such: MOH, Him, then accoridng to height. beautiful pictures.

    Good Luck and Congratulations!

A friend of a friend had a girl bestman and they signified it with colors. The brides attendents had one color and the grooms attendents had another and her dress match the guys' vests. I'm all for it's your day you do what you want.

I am having a Male Bridesmaid...and he is not close to my FH, so I am including my brother and male cousin on my side as well, and my FH is having his sister on his side....Like a COED Bridal Party !!!

My MOH is a guy...he's my best friend and has been for years. He's not close with my FH at all. But he's been a huge part of my life and I wouldn't even consider not having him stand right beside me. So I think things will be fine. I posted a discussion about it in "all" if your interested in seeing what everyone else wrote. He will not only be with the bridal party like yours, but he's my MOH...so arranging them on who's gonna walk with who was the tricky part to figure out...but thanks to everyone on here, I got the perfect idea!! Congrats and good luck. It's your day do whatever you want!!

I don't think its weird at all. After all I'm planning on the same thing, we kinda have a pact that he would stand on my side and I'll stand on his side. We can't help on who our best friends are.

Your attendants should be chosen based on friendship and affection, not on whether they meet certain characteristics or fit some stereotypical image. This is someone you are very closely, so absolutely he should stand up for you at your wedding!

I was a bridesmaid once. Actually wore the same dress to match the other bridesmaids.

I'm doing that - only in reverse!

The dresses for my larger bridesmaids don't fit the skinny one, so after a groomsman dropped out, she volunteered to stand on the guy's side. Which worked out because my 16 year old niece didn't want to walk with a mid30 year old guy.
