Making your WeddingWire website searchable in google

Rachel, on December 15, 2016 at 10:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

Hi all. May be that I am not the only one having this problem but wonder if people have found a solution. When I type my name and weddingwire into a google search my website doesn't show up. Site is listed as searchable. Any ideas what I can do to fix this? I choose ww bc I was tired of the knot from other weddings but I would like the site to be searchable in google. Thanks in advance!

How long ago did you create your wedding website?

Google has to have time to "crawl" and index a site before its visible in the search engine. Could take a few hours or a few days.

It could be that your names are common so there's no chance you'll end up on the first page of the search results, or google hasn't crawled and indexed your page yet, or any number of reasons.

I did a little research because I was curious too, it sounds like the "make website searchable" function is just so it's searchable from the weddingwire site, not necessarily via a search engine.

I could be 100% wrong about all of this. But getting my company's website to show up in search engines is a part of my job so just trying to help!

Just odd other people's sites show up. When I search weddingwire and my name my business site shows up!

I agree with LindseyK17....I think the searchable function only allows it to be found on Wedding Wire.

I'm sure for various reasons, Wedding Wire has banned robots from crawling users' wedding websites. Most couples don't want it searchable on Google for various reasons...including uninvited relatives, break ups, and just wanting the website to go away after the wedding.

I work in search marketing like Lindsey. If it hasn't been crawled after being up for a month, it most likely isn't going to happen.

ETA: is it your business WW site or profile showing up in search results. A profile is a different "page" than a user website.

I meant my name is pretty unique and my real job site comes up (non wedding related) but not wedding wire

Hi Rachel! When I searched for your website on google I found it right away as one of the top results. To find anyone's wedding website (regardless of what company they use) - it helps to google "wedding website first name last name".

All of our wedding websites are crawled by google, but we can't control how quickly! Yours has been crawled and indexed, so you shouldn't have trouble finding it!

*If you are just searching your name your professional pages and reviews are coming up because they are more relevant to your keywords. Throw "wedding" in there to help google out Smiley smile

ETA: @LindseyK17 - you nailed it! The "make your website searchable" is within our WW search database, for when guests go to weddingwire.com and are trying to locate someone's wedding website!

    @ Lynnie

I searched google using "wedding website and my first and last name" ( without quotation marks) and I found my Knot website but didn't find the WW one.

Hi @Anne! That's because your entire wedding website (every single page) is hidden, so it is not publicly visible!

To "un-hide" your individual website pages, you'll need to enter the website editor, click on the settings gear next to each individual page, and change the "Hide Page?" toggle from "Yes" to "No". These settings and the visibility are explained right in the website editor!

@Rachel - I don't want to put all of your personal info on blast, so I'll shoot you an email with screenshots of your WeddingWire website returning in google search results!

@WWLynnie I can't seem to find mine either. I put for it to be public and searchable but when I google wedding, wedding wire, our names just a registery and the Knot comes up (I'm not even on the knot either)

Thank you. I'll adjust the settings. I'm challenged when it comes to technology.

I think I figured out a way around the same exact same issue I'm having!! I thought that by putting my exact URL address on all save the dates and the invitations, my guests would be able to find my WW website OK - but NOPE!! Most of my guests found my old site on The Knot that I abandoned and switched to WW (regretting it now). Turns out they were Googling my name & wedding, but for some reason WW does not let my page to be indexed by Google (and I have tried toggling all settings as Lynne says above). Ugh, this has caused a lot of confusion for guests and headache for me.

So - I went back to my Knot website and removed all sections except for one, and I titled it "Our Website Has Moved" in HUGE font - and then I hyperlinked it to my WW site. It's the only thing I can think of to get around this issue. Sucks.

I did it by changing the page section of "Our Story" - you can change the title of the section, then in the body where you type, just put the link and click the little chain icon that lets you hyperlink it.
