Making the reception last longer

Queen Cone, on August 21, 2020 at 6:54 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 14
So due to restrictions in our state, we are not allowed dancing at weddings which may potentially shorten how long people want to stay. What are some ideas for activities (not necessarily games) that will encourage people to stay a while longer, such a cigar bar ? But just not a cigar bar because of COVID. But something like that. Thanks!

You're supposed to have an 11 hour reception? I honestly don't think even with dancing people would want to stay 11 hours.

I think she means that 11 is the end time, at least I would hope so!

What are things you’re into that you could incorporate? You may end up having to cut the time back some.

We learned this week that we can still use our venue but we won’t be able to have dancing like planned. We had planned to have our reception go until 11 pm but we are now looking at ending around 8. We usually host game nights, pre covid, so we plan to get some yard games and have lots of sanitation stations set up. Our venue for the ceremony/reception is outside at a farm/winery. We plan to have a photo booth with a Polaroid camera set up and put props on individual tables, with only shared households per table, so no one has to share props.

That makes more sense... I think with Covid present, I wouldn't go longer than 3-4 hours. Depending on what kind of dinner you're planning, that will take up 1.5 - 2 hours.

You could start with cocktail hour first, followed by dinner - now you're looking at 2.5 - 3 hours

You could also hire entertainment. I’ve seen some really fun ideas in Pinterest for wedding entertainment. Again, depending what you and your circle are into. Magicians, caricature artist, ect.

You say no games but that would be the easiest way to go.

We've thought about the following games.

    1. Shoe game.

    2. Newlywed game with a few other chosen couples.

    3. Trivia Games. Picking a few out of the audience, who knows the couple best.

    Booths

    1. We also considered a photo area, with an attendant that will disinfected things in between photos.

    2. Master Mixologist who does extreme tricks.

    3. Caricature

Definitely have games if you want a prolonged reception. In Lieu of dancing

Without dancing, guests mingle. You can add entertainment such as performers or games such as trivia. Have a fun dessert brought out later in addition to your cake.

Unfortunately in NY the regulations are very strict. you are not allowed to get out of your seat unless being escorted to the bathroom so there likely wont be any mingling.

They can still chat across the table. That is a common way to mingle.
