Making my sheath style dress into an Aline or trumpet

I’m sooo In love with my dress but want morenof a bridal feel and to hide my tummy more or disguise it. What are your recommendations? I know curvy girls aren’t suppose to wear these kinds of dresses but I don’t care I feel like a million bucks in it. Just looking to enhance it.

Is there a way to private message me this pictures? I ordered my current size but the top was a bit loose. I’m currently trying to loose weight though so hopefully that helps

I had a sheath dress but decided to buy an overskirt to add more volume and a train. I know you are looking for more of a trumpet style, but the tulle overskirt added a ton of movement and shape. Perhaps you could find a trumpet style overskirt on Etsy or a seamstress can make you one to throw over top of your dress? I loved this because when I was dancing I took the overskirt off and was able to move more freely but it made my dress feel more grand for my church wedding.

Well technically it’s an A line I think, I’ve thought about adding triangular panels towards the bottom in the same fabric as the dress but It is hard to find examples of other people who have done this and I’m anxious to try it without an idea of what it might look like 😬

Where did you get your overskirt? The only thing is I have a beautiful train I don’t want to cover!

I got mine from Davids Bridal! They had two different styles and they were pretty affordable ($200) but my dress was only $500 so I stayed under budget still. You could always get a trumpet shaped petticoat to fill out the bottom and then see if a seamstress can take the dress in a little bit to form to the petticoat. The nice thing about sheath dresses is they usually are very flowing so hopefully that would be an option too then you'd get to keep your train! The whole reason I got an overskirt was to add a train, lol!

You'll need to find a skilled seamstress who can match the fabric exactly. Given that, it's definitely possible. Bring examples of dresses you like, and ask her if she can add godets (go-days) to the skirt to give the same effect.

Do you think David’s bridal seamstresses are capable?

Probably, but DB seems to be more expensive for alterations than independent alterations places. You have a bit more security with them, though, I think.

Hi Courtney! Did you end up altering your skirt to change the shape, or adding something to it? What did your seamstress advise? Are you feeling good about the shape of it now?

They ended up ordering the completely wrong dress for me so I haven’t had any alteration appointments yet

I think the dress looks perfect on you but you can always look into a court train.
