Making my sheath style dress into an Aline or trumpet

courtney, on April 12, 2019 at 10:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 39
I’m sooo In love with my dress but want morenof a bridal feel and to hide my tummy more or disguise it. What are your recommendations? I know curvy girls aren’t suppose to wear these kinds of dresses but I don’t care I feel like a million bucks in it. Just looking to enhance it.

It's gorgeous!! I'm not sure what you are asking? Sorry. I'm curvy, too.

This is just a suggestion, less expensive than trying to alter your gown. What about a pair of low rise spanx? I know with your gown you couldn't wear the ones that go to your waist. Just a thought. I'm thinking of wearing a pair. I really do love your gown. Your curves are beautiful!!

I think the dress looks beautiful on you. And wow your hair is so long! I'm not sure what alterations should be done but I agree a shaping undergarment of some sort helps us ALL. It just helps to smooth out the lumps and bumps we all have. You can always go to a department store and pick up a couple styles to try on with your dress! Just be sure of their return policies so you don't get stuck with a bunch of shapewear.

Umm, curvy girls can rock that kind of dress! You definitely are! I would ask the bridal consultant or alterations person about recommended shapewear. That will help with the tummy area. There are overskirts you could find if you want something temporary to just add on (I know BHLDN has stuff like that) or you could ask your alterations person if they think adding panels to make a more fluted trumpet effect would work. Either way, you look amazing in that dress!

If you want to smooth your shape, Spanx. It's a modern day corset with all the love and hate aspects of corsets. Love for it is the shape it gives. Hate part is it being uncomfortable.

As for shape that hides everything, a line. Trumpet and sheath don't hide anything. Trumpet actually is more accentuating. It's great for people with an hourglass figure.

Thank you all!! Do you think adding a slip for a mermaid or trumpet would make it just alittle more flowy at the bottom? I felt like I was tripping on it it clings to my feet

You’re so sweet. What does crinoline do? Do you think It has enough fabric? I’m short so there is excess on the bottom

Crinoline is the tulle/slip that makes the dress poof out. U can either see if someone can sew it into the bottom of the skirt or find a slip that wont show with your dress. Just remember if u r wearing ur dress all night and have it sewn in u will have to deal w it all night.

Yes i think it wld, my only concern wld b it not showing in the back, but it wld definiley give u the poof at the bottom. U cld also talk to a seamstress and see if they have any recommendations.

I have a sheath dress with the see through fabric up top as well. If it’s the same type like mine, It can be altered to have more flare at the bottom if you find the right seamstress. I struggled with dress regret because my dress had a low back and sleeves but not the flare at the bottom that I wanted. My shoulders are more broad than my hips so i didn’t feel it complimented me as much. The seamstress God put in my path was able to add another layer and make it flare out more. Smiley smile I’m not sure about an a line because you would probably need more fabric but I think it’s possible to give it more flare at the bottom.

Oh boy lol. Hold on let me see if I can find some good ones. I don’t really want to post my dress but I know it can be very stressful and I wish I had someone who went through the same thing when I first bought my dress. Now I am smaller frame but like I said my shoulders are broad and the flare kind of evens it out. Lol. I did order a size or so bigger because it’s easier to take in then add to you know? Not like that mattered though because my sleeves were still a little tight lol.... because my shoulders and all. Did you order your correct size or bigger?
