Making my Maid of Honor Stand Out

Karin, on July 22, 2019 at 12:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
So my little sister is my maid honor. She is super important to me and is my best friend and I really want her to stand out at the wedding, however I want everyone to wear the same dress. I’m having a hard time coming up with another ways to make her stand out. I’m not getting married till March but I’d like ideas before I make the final decision about having her wear the same dress.
Thanks in advance

Many brides will give their MOHs slightly larger bouquet add a sash to their dresses.

Hmm.. could she have a bigger bouquet than the rest of the girls? Not as big as yours, but bigger than the bridesmaids?

I agree with Courtney, an easy thing to do is give the MOH a larger or slightly different but coordinating bouquet. That's what we are doing for mine.

Larger bouquets, hairpieces, a sash or belt, larger jewelry....I've seen things along all of these lines. My younger sister was also my MOH and even though my ladies all had different dresses in 3 different colors, she was able to stand out. Her dress was the only one with any sort of embellishment - a rhinestone belt

Larger bouquet, rhinestone belt or sash, you could do a tulle hair now, if you have short dresses you could her a long one.

All my BM and MOH are wearing the same dress but I am thinking of adding a crystal belt to my MOH dress. I already updated her flowers from the babies breath bouquets that the BMs will be carrying, to roses an babies breath to have her stand out.

I'm planning on having my MOH wear her hair differently than the others. If my BMs hair is down, hers will be up or the other way around.

How about her wear the same dress, but in a different color?

When I got married the first time my girls all wore the same color blue but my sister who was the MOH had a different style dress. This time, my friend is my MOH and she is wearing a different dress in a different color. Would you be ok with the same dress but a different color that fits with your color scheme? If not, I agree with PP about adding a sash or belt or maybe a broach of some kind. Or perhaps if your BMs wear their hair in curls, your MOH can have braids or something different.

I had different gowns for everyone but they were all same length except my moh had a short dress. However i liked what everyone said about making her bouquet bigger

Hi! I am a march 2020 bride as well!!

I would suggest you can have your sister wear a jeweled belt or brooch on her hip of the dress Smiley smile this is what I will be doing. Also, you can have her bouquet a little bigger than the others or a little more similar to yours or such

Bigger bouquets, blingier jewelry, wider sashes are all really good ways to differentiate the MoH from the rest of the girls. You could also have her have fancier nails if that is something you are dictating (as most do). She could also have a fancier hairstyle with some extra accessories.

My MOH will have a larger bouquet. I also told the girls to wear any black shoes, but my MOH will be wearing the same heels I’m wearing (hers are black and mine are white) so that we can take cute matching shoes pictures.

Ive also thought about buying her a nice Hair comb to make her stand out.

I've seen this done in a few wedding videos I have watched - in one, the colors of the wedding were pink and gold. The maid of honor wore a gold color dress, the other bridesmaids wore a pink color - all the same dress, just making the maid of honor stand out more. Could you try that?

My MOH will be wearing a different color than my BM's but none of them are wearing the same dress. IMO the required "uniform" look is dated and reminds me all of the horrific strapless oddly colored BM dresses I was forced to wear between 2007 and 2012.

My MOH had a slightly bigger bouquet and slightly different dress but only bc she slacked on ordering her dress and they didnt restock it in her size.

But I'm a fan of the blingy belts if you want the same dresses.
