making dessert for my jack n jill

MrsBraddock, on August 24, 2009 at 10:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

My Jack n' Jill is this weekend... Yayyy, Im kind of happy and don't really know what to expect. well since Im not having a shower and FH isnt having a stag- you'd think the bridal party would help FHs mom with the planning, but nope shes doing about 75% of it. We actually bought all the raffles for our OWN shower... But whatever. Only 1 of my bridesmaids contacted her to help- none of the groomsman. I just feel bad. Anyway me and my MoH are making dessert for the bash- about 100 people (we are thinking anyway) His mom bought a huge cake at BJs, and my grandmother is making a ton of banana bread (my fav!!) I was going to make cookies, but any other yummy ideas that are more upscale than a regular cookie?

Thanks!

Also I wanted to add- I wasn't bashing anything. We dont care we had to buy the raffles or anything like that- or wanted a stag/shower this was supposed to be a "suprise" thrown by everyone at first, and it was all left on FHs mom, which I feel horrible about.

Well I absolutely love brownies, there are these cute brownie decorating items at michaels with stencils and sugar you can use that would make them look more upscale

Going with the brownie thing, a quick way to spruce them up is to use cookie cutters. You can do hearts, or you can get concentric circles and stack them to make mini "wedding cakes" - stick a toothpick down the middle to hold the layers together.

Ok so I shouldn't give my secret away for free online buuttt for brownies to die for use butter instead of oil when making them from a box... people ALWAYS want more of my brownies.

Adriana- it is a shower for both the bride and groom.

How about cupcakes? Most people really love them, and you can make them fairly easily. I made mini cupcakes (in a mini muffin pan) for my sister's birthday a couple months ago and everybody loved them.

So I've never heard of the "Jack and Jill" thing but I just googled it (lol, I love google). I got the idea of it, but what are some things you, or any of you other ladies, do at this "Jack and Jill"? Are there any games to play? The reason I ask is because my mom is having a bridal shower for me next month and I don't want it to be called "bridal shower" since it's for men and women to attend. (My idea of a bridal shower is for women only). Anyways, I'm thinking of having her call it "Jack and Jill". Also, on the invites, do you say that it's a "Jack and Jill"?

Mini cheese cakes always look really elegant and they are really simple to make! Just get muffin tins and put muffin tin liners (the little paper liners) in them, drop a Nilla wafer in the bottom of each muffin liner then spoon some cheese cake batter into each. Bake as usual. You can go all out and slice up fresh fruit for the tops of each or for an easier alternative you can open up a few cans of pie filling (cherry, strawberry, blueberry-what ever!) and spoon on the tops before serving.

PS this is a simple and yummy cheesecake recipe that I've used. Just don't make the crust and use the nilla wafers instead.

MMM yes it's hard to beat cheese cakes for being super yummy! And it sounds like you'll have plenty of other desserts also for those people who don't care for cheesecake!
