Makeup

Karla, on March 5, 2021 at 8:58 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 35

Where I m located, its very overpriced and being charged around $1,400 to get makeup done for myself and bridal party. Should I just have it done professionally done for just myself or should I just do my own makeup?? I am located Frederick, MD.

I’m doing all of my own make up and hair. I’m also doing my bridesmaids hair and make up. I am however obsessed with hair and make up and have been wearing/doing hair/make up and also have a cosmetology license(not that that matters).

I would suggest YouTubing and practicing practicing practicing! One of my absolute favorite go to make up artist is Hindash and you can find him in youtube.
He does AMAZING bridal make up tutorials!

I wouldn’t recommend doing your own. Even if you’re great at every day makeup, you’re probably not experienced in doing makeup that will be professionally photographed. It’s also just a lot to do on your wedding day and you deserve to be pampered on this one day.

That is completely dependent upon your budget. However, unless you are incredibly skilled at doing make up for photographs, I would highly suggest at least having your own make up done. Depending on how many people are in your bridal party, $1400 may be completely reasonable. We are paying over $1500 for myself and four bridesmaid’s makeup. I’ve seen other people offer make up services to their bridesmaids (not required) and have them pay for it themselves. Something to consider: i’m not sure if you’re planning on having your make up done on-site, but a lot of make up artists require a minimum amount of services in order to travel to you. So if you end up only having your make up done, you will want to make sure you ask if they have a minimum services requirement.

How much is it per person? If you aren't requiring the bridal party to get the services, it's typical for people to pay for their own hair and make up. This way you aren't responsible for the whole $1,400.

If the price is the concern, then only have your makeup done professionally. Your bridesmaids can have the option of pay for their services through your makeup artist or deciding on an alternate plan for their makeup.

I'm in Baltimore, so close by you! I'm hiring Swept (WW linked) for hair/makeup - I found their hair and makeup prices pretty reasonable for our area and they have tons of great reviews. Agreed with PP to offer hair/makeup as an option to your bridesmaids, not a requirement, that way they're responsible for paying or doing it themselves.

This! This is what I'm doing with my ladies. I told them the price of the hair stylist and MUA that I was wanting, and the look I'm going for (natural, loose curls and simple hair). All of my ladies wanted to get their makeup done, and refused to let me pay lol, so I got lucky with them. Smiley heart Most are just going to curl their own hair and pin it half up since they can do that themselves.

I'm only paying for me, mom and FMIL. Which for makeup it comes to like $275?

I would yours done professionally. It really makes a huge difference in photos. I would give your bridal party the option to use your HMUA at their own expense.

Exactly this. If I were you, I would have my own hair/makeup done for sure and then make it an optional thing for my bridal party, and if they choose to utilize it they would be responsible for paying for their services.

How many people are in your bridal party? It's hard to say if $1400 is reasonable or unreasonable if we don't know how many people you're talking. However, I definitely agree with the PPs that if cost is the issue, then only get your makeup done professionally and make it optional for your bridesmaids. If you make it optional for the bridesmaids, then they can cover their own costs.

The best gift I received for my sweet sixteen ( when I was going tor 15 months in Europe) was 3 1 hour lessons from a local cosmetologist and hairstylist, a gift from my mother's 4 sisters. She charged same as a no-shampoo style and make up in her shop, $45 times 3. O have jad a few jobs where appearing in e eno g clothes nightly was called for, done neat as a pin for the army, and everyday professional for 25 years, and except for experimenting with occasional shades of makeup when every few years they change clothing, I had always been fine. O have jawline to middle of back hair, so thet includes some braiding. If you have never really known how, either do this, or have your makeup done. Like a more traditional wedding, ask your bridesmaids to take are of themselves, whether they go to a salon, a hotel or store with salon, hire or barter with a friend. Set a time to get together for 1 pic together before you put on your veil, with them or Mom. Major advantages of getting ready this way are no group getting ready means your BM dress and are groomed during the same time you are. no early photographer time. Peace and quiet, not a lot of nerves boxed up in a room. You are not making a movie. No one will ever see your face blown up to 18 inches. Maybe 1 inch or two. aif practice or using a video works, go ahead But consider lessons of you jave the money, and would rather mot have a stylist do a wedding look, but rather
learn how much and where to even out your skin tone, and accentuate your best features. Then, you can reproduce the look on your honeymoon, and any formal occasion, of for work and social things, any time.
Have her show you first a professional or work look ( unless a welder etc) then at leat two other looks, maybe hair up and hair down if long. She does. You do. She helps you do or change. Then get a good electric lit around a 11-12 or whatever makeup mirror where you can vary the tint of the light. And flip the big mirror normal on one side, magnified on the other. I think mune is 2X, whayever is syandard. This way you can pull it 6-8 inches from your face and use two hands. Uour ladies may plan separately or together, not with you, or with a non professional, or do themselves. My MOG and Gr family had theirs fone by the 4 SIL or 2 S of the groom. My ladies did their own. My mom did hers and helped 2 of my 4 sisters with traditional Scandinavian braiding. No Pro. Everyone looked great. Makeup not overdone or masklike.
