Makeup Counters...which is best???

D.R. Bride, on August 1, 2016 at 3:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

In your experience which makeup counter at the mall does the best makeovers and has good products besides MAC (I buy from them all the time so want to try something different)? I want to get my makeup done for my bridal shower this month so please provide me with your opinions/experience. Also, what is the minimum amount of product you have to buy? I know for MAC it is $60.

Sephora is $50. I like them most because my personal experience with them has always been great.

For me I use Clinique foundation, Smashbox primer, UD eyeshadows and setting spray, Too Faced Eyeshadows...it depends on what I'm looking for.

Sephora is $50, I like Sephora better because there's more products to choose from that'll match my skin type better.

Sephora is great! Plus you can ask for products that don't use animal testing unlike MAC which does do animal testing. Plus Sephora is great because they have so many different brands!

I'd go to MAC- or ULTA before sehpora- most of those folks aren't actually licensed. Some of them are damn good- but I've been HORRIBLY mismatched for foundation with them before.

    HORRIBLY.

Set an appointment though with wherever you go- you don't want to walk into the MAC store and realize they are totally booked.

You could always do a department store- bobbie brown- YSL- Clinique- they all do make overs to.

Personally I love Sephora, even more so than MAC (make-up gurus don't kill me). I think the minimum purchase is $50 but they are so very friendly and if you just wanted them to do your brows, or just your eye shadow they will do it for free and you can do everything else. And they give you samples of products so if you want to try a product that looks interesting for free you can! And they are really great at teaching as well!

I love Clinique products (try their cream/tube eyeshadow!), but not necessarily their makeup artists. If you know what you're doing, I'd recommend them. If not, it's hit or miss.

Hmm, I never thought about Sephora...I do like that they give free samples if you want to try something.

@JoRocka Are they licensed at Ulta?

I work at Sephora and love all my coworkers and their work! Not even doing my own makeup for my wedding, I'm gonna have a coworker do it! $50 min purchase and you can buy anything in the store. Speak up if you don't like something. It's our job, we don't get offended.

D and R Bride- that's an EXCELLENT question- I THINK so- because I know they teach classes.

    But I'm not 100% certain.

let me call and ask for you!

scratch- I just was looking on their page

looks like only in certain states it's required.

@Anna Since you work there, what is the best line that has a really good primer (I have oily skin) and best selection of foundation that will not slide off (my bridal shower is going to be outdoors eek!)

    @JoRocka Thank you for checking!

Honestly foundation is one of those things you need to go find out for yourself.

People RAVE RAVE RAVE about Make Up Forever High Def- hated it. separated on my face. by 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

Just a giant pile of NOPE.

Go to sephora and get samples- and try them out.

    my PERSONAL go to favorites

Loreal (made my Estee Lauder? sp) pro matte long wear

    Lumi- pump or cushion

I hear the new pro glow is EPIC and beautiful.

Otherwise- Two face born this way and Urban Decay Naked- either the original naked or the new All Nighter.

    All three are brilliant foundations.

    Smashbox primer is very good.

Benefit is pore perfecting is really good.

I use Anti Chafing gel from the drug store- same as high end silicone primers- exact.same.

    1/3 the cost.

And a good setting spray- Urban Decay or NYX are both acceptable- MAC Fix Plus isn't a setting spray so- skip that.

I probably wouldn't do MAC just because MAC does terrible, terrible things to my skin (at least the foundation) because it is so so heavy and oily.

I really love my Estee Lauder foundation. It's incredible. It goes on, and is a great coverage, but it doesn't feel like I'm suffocating (like MAC feels)

What does a Sephora makeover entail? Do they just do eyes or is it a full look? Also thinking about doing this for my shower but I want foundation, eyes, and lips done.
