Makeup and freckles. UPDATE in comments: tried airbrush!

I have my first hair and makeup trial next weekend so I've been trying to find inspiration pictures and I'm just really struggling with the makeup. I have a face full of dark freckles and the handful of times I've had face makeup on, I absolutely hate it. It subdues my freckles (which I'm not a fan of) and just never looks natural because of that. I feel like it dulls my face. Is it rude to ask a makeup artist if they would only do eye and lip makeup and maybe some blush? I will try out the face makeup at my trial next weekend anyways but if I still don't like it, I just wanted to check to see if it's rude to ask a makeup artist that question? I don't want to offend the artist by asking but I have very low confidence that I will like the face makeup. I've only had pro makeup once and that was for my boudoir shoot a few weeks ago. She did an awesome job (not same as wedding MUA) but I still felt really weird about the foundation she put on and didn't really like that part.
