Make up regret

I had my wedding in another state. I am Asian and I often find it difficult to find a makeup artist who knows how to do my makeup. I flew in multiple times before my wedding to have makeup trials and found one makeup artist who could do whatever I told her to do. (As most of the artists are really artists and they would not like to listen to instruction.)

However, on the day, she changed to give me tanning!!! At that time I did not have a mirror to look at. Now I look at the photos and I just want to cry. My face was sooooo tan, but my lips were pale. My shoulders and arms were so white. I totally regret not to do my own makeup. Two of my bridesmaids opt for doing their own makeup.

Do you think I should complain to the makeup artist?

You look darker than your trial but I don't think it looks terrible! Do you have a picture showing the difference in your neck and shoulders?

When I was doing my makeup, I had another dress on. So, the tanning only goes on my neck and a little bit on my chest in the front. We've already fixed the makeup a little bit in this photo. We put some powder on to cover the fake tanning on my face. So, except the fake tan line between my neck and shoulders, it was a little bit better.

In that picture, I would have never noticed, had you not pointed it out and even then, I'm really searching. I'm interested to see a fuller shot though for the whole look.

I'm with Elyse, I really wouldn't have noticed anything without you pointing it out. Even now, I'm struggling to see the difference.

Samantha - you look beautiful!! I would not stress at all about it. I know it is noticable to you, but I cannot see any difference. Just beautiful!!

After my bridesmaids fixed the makeup on my face, basically it is not that noticeable. I looked more tan than normal for sure, and it wasn't what I expected at all. As I tried so hard not to have even skin tone from face to shoulders to arms after the trial, it seems like a waste of effort. And I think I can do a better makeup than the makeup artist on that day. Because she removed lots of shading too, I looked puffy on some parts of my face in some of the angle in the video.

My best friend also suggested to have another photoshoot. However, it won't be the same. So, I feel terrible that I tried so hard to fly in couple times before to do the trials and tried to pick a good artist, but still, on that day, things got messed up and it happened to be my makeup.

Thank you so much to your kind words! My grandma and some uncles could not make it to the wedding. They watched the video and saw the morning part was totally different from who I was. They said I looked like indians or filipinos. And you know how uncles and aunts, they said we should have done this or that...blahblahblah...

Completely understand @Samantha, my family thought it was weird since i normally never wear makeup. I do think you still look like "you" and I agree, i wouldn't have noticed unless you said anything! If this is the biggest hang-up post-wedding i'd consider that a very successful wedding!!

Thank you so much! I had so much trouble with my dress and makeup. I feel like spending a lot and still didn't get things right. That's why I get really upset about that.

Samantha i also complained about my MUA after the fact. It's frustrating when you do trials, and it's not what you were hoping for. I wanted dramatic eyes and she ran out of fake eyelashes, and used a purple-ish color which wasn't as dramatic as i was hoping for! Also i feel that I'm very outspoken, but when it comes to professionals I bit my tongue more than i normally would day of in fear of seeming like a bridezilla/that they didn't know what they were doing. Just remember you're always going to nit-pick (sp?) when it comes to yourself

@e=mc2 I totally agree with you. I actually provided my own eyelashes. I had done a trial with a friend who lives in CA. (I really regretted not to fly her over to my wedding. She did a much better job and also, the amount of time and money I spent on flying in to MN multiple times probably is about the same amount as I fly her out.) My friend gave me a pair of dramatic eyelashes and told me I could use it multiple times as I shampoo it well. So, I did that. I cannot really find the same kind anywhere else.

The MUA still charged me for the pair of eyelashes I didn't use. At the trial, she kept saying I could take the pair from her since she did not use it. However, I don't know where it goes. I did not take it with me. So, I asked her again and she said she didn't find it at her studio. So, I guess she is not very honest to begin with.

Oh no I am sorry to hear that you weren't able to look at your makeup during the process and didn't have time to fix it Smiley sad Like you said, it will be hard to edit it from the video but hopefully your photographer will be able to touch up the photos and make you look more like yourself.

ETA: I just saw your photo and you look beautiful! It isn't bad and had you not said anything I would not have noticed.
