Ok so I’m having some huge dress regret. Bought a dress and ordered in a color I wasn’t sure about (pics in my previous forum thread). Now, I found THIS dress pictured here and I love it. But I’m worried about purchasing another one only to have more dress regret. Help?

The dress looks absolutely beautiful on you. Im a frugal person so I wouldn't buy another dress.

I would wait closer to your wedding so there's less opportunity to have regret and exchange it. Dress regret is normal. Maybe this is the one. If you love then trust me stop looking at dresses afterwards.

I went and looked at the other dress. Both dresses are beautiful, but I personally like this one better. What you need to do is make a decision and then stop looking! The more you look the more you will see/find and you will have this feeling. Once you buy the dress that is when you should stop looking.

Both dresses have a very similar silhouette, but the detail on this one is really pretty.

But that being said, I see your wedding isn’t until next September. Are you ordering this dress from the same place as the first dress? Can you exchange or return your first dress? What’s the lead time to order this new dress, could you wait until much closer to your wedding date to pull the trigger on this decision?

I also looked at the other dresses, all of them are beautiful. I think dress regret is normal and once you decide on a dress you should stop looking because no matter what dress you pick there will always be other dresses that look nice which makes it that much harder.

I have a little bit of time. The dress in this thread is a 2018 collection, so not a ton of time before it may be discontinued. Different store, but I have several friends also getting married after me, so I'm hoping if I do buy this one, I can sell the first to one of them

It's really the color that I'm the most worried about. I didn't like the pure white look of the ivory, so I tried on a different dress by the same designer with a latte under layer, and ordered the latte version after being talked into it.

Pick a dress and then stop looking. I bought two dresses but they were identical except color. It took me 6 months to sell and for a fraction of what I paid.

I would not count on your friends “buying” your unwanted dress - would you buy your friend’s unwanted dress?

I agree with Margaret's comment. I don't know your friends, but it generally seems unlikely that one of your friends will be happy to buy your unwanted dress.... I'm sure you don't mean it that way, but I think some people might find that suggestion kind of insulting -- like, "Oh, I found something much prettier, but do you want to buy the one I don't like anymore????" If you can afford a second dress and/or are willing to take a loss on the first one, go for it, but I've rarely seen posts from brides who didn't take a big financial loss when they've tried to re-sell an unworn gown.

Especially with Covid, it seems there have been a LOT more weddings cancelled or downsized significantly than normal, so I'd guess there will be even more dresses available on various re-sale sites than there usually are. I think that "market glut" will drive prices down even further.... Stupid Covid.... Smiley sad

I would, actually buy a dress from a friend. Unwanted just means it wasn't right for the person who first bought it.

Only you can say if this is a deal breaker for you. Some things to consider: Can you afford to buy two dresses without impacting other wedding items and or your personal budget? Did you buy your first dress? If not, and you choose to buy this one I think you should fully pay back whomever bought the first one. Plan on taking a loss on the first dress as they never sell for as much as you paid (even unworn). Don't plan on a friend buying it....this could cause damage to a friendship if something goes wrong.

I remember your other dress. They're both pretty similar but I personally like this one better. Don't let other people's opinions dictate which dress you rather have though. Since you do have time, I'd wait it out a bit. If you do end up buying this dress, you can always look to selling your current dress online or maybe a local shop that takes pre-owned dresses.

Definitely do some research to see what your best option would be. My advice would be to stop looking after you make your decision. I had dress regret once as well and when I got my new dress, I never looked back. I still love it! Just know that there's no wrong decision. Go with your heart and stick with it. Good luck.

Looking at both dresses I agree with other PP that I definitely like this dress better, and, once you find the one you have to stop looking (I should listen to this advice 😂).

I love the top of your first dress and the bottom of this dress, so I'm no help in that regard, haha! But as someone who had serious dress regret (as in full-on breakdown in the middle of the night), you should think whether it's actually dress regret or if it's FOMO.

If it's FOMO, just stop looking. You have a dress, you loved it enough to buy it, and you look good in it. If it's true dress regret, contact the shop ASAP and figure out if you're able to cancel your order and get your money back. Then in future shopping trips, go in with a "this is it" mentality. As in, if I buy this dress, this is it and I'm done looking, shopping, and trying on. You have to be confident in yourself that you're capable of making and have made the best decision for you.

I personally like this one better. You looked beautiful in both, but this one is so much more dramatic and gorgeous.

I looked back at your previous post and personally, I like the 2nd dress that you were torn about better. The dress in this thread is nice, but the 2nd dress pictured in your other post looks so good on you and is so pretty!

Thank you. That second dress (the strapless one) was only included for color reference. The dress itself wasn’t a contender.
