Maine Honeymoon ideas?

BridalGirl24, on December 14, 2016 at 7:48 PM Posted in Maine Planning 0 18

We are getting married in CT but would like to honeymoon in Maine or New Hampshire area.

Our wedding is in October, so many people have told us to go far away to the Islands or wherever but we both just really wanna enjoy the Fall weather, inexpensive, Cabin Honeymoon with some hiking and kayaking/canoeing.

Does anyone recommend any good places for this Smiley smile

For what you're looking for, Acadia sounds like you're best bet! If you want to stay in a cute town look in Bad Harbor but anything on Mount Desert Island is great! Remember that later in October can start to get cold around here.

Another vote for Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor is a great town to stay in. Still one of FH and I's favorite trips.

Bar Harbor is really nice and I, personally, loved Portland.

I'm from Maine! That's a great time of year to go (maybe a bit chilly) I would highly recommend Acadia National Park and the Bar Harbor Area! There are so many cute trails and the coast is beautiful there. Also if you get up super early and hike Cadillac Mtn you can watch the sunrise from the first place in the US that you can see it! Another fun day activity from bar Harbor is to take a day cruise (I've taken the Cat) up to Canada.

I agree with others that Acadia sounds perfect for you, but if you're driving I'd recommend also factoring in a couple of days in Portland on the way there or back. Portland is one of my absolutely favorite cities. So many amazing restaurants, bars, breweries, cute shops, and that quintessential New England atmosphere. I love it.

We are getting married in October then going to Maine for the honeymoon too! We are going to stay at Kennebunk and do a Stephen King Tour one day. Hopefully I'll see you there. Smiley smile

Portland was an awesome city, we visited for my cousin's wedding and had a great time there! I would recommend spending a few days/nights in Portland and then camping in Acadia National Park. My parents spent one of their milestone anniversaries there and loved it!

Keep in mind with an October wedding, much of the outdoor activities will depend on your tolerance of the cold. It can be cold at Acadia in September, let alone October. If you're a cold-weather person (as I am), it's great. If you're not (like some of my family), you will log more hotel days than you will outdoors day. So in that case, I'd pay attention to the hotel/cabin you get rather than things like hiking. But if you like the cold, Acadia all the way! I don't know if the Bar Harbor Inn and Spa is open in October, but if it is, try to get a room there on the harbor. It's a beautiful hotel and there's nothing like leaving the patio door open and waking up to the salty smell of the sea and the sound of seagulls right outside your room.

I also like the idea of the White Mountains. They're gorgeous in October.

Bar Harbor and Acadia for sure! However, make sure to see if anything in the towns you plan to visit will be open. A lot of the shops and some of the restaurants in the Bar Harbor area operate on a seasonal schedule, with Columbus Day being their last weekend in service. It will also be cooler as well, so you may want to skip some of the water activities unless you do really well in the cold.

I tent camped near Kennebunkport Maine in October last year and BOY was it cold. But fun! And they had cabins!

Tom Hegan Wilderness Cabins in Rockwood, Maine. Natural deer all over the property that you can hand feed. Right on Moosehead Lake, 4 miles down a dirt road! It is our happy place! Highly recommend!!
