Mailing out invitations in the rain/storm?? (Urgent)

thermo, on January 19, 2017 at 9:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Today's supposed to be the big day we went down to the post office to have them hand cancel and send out our invitations (120!), but alas it's raining! In fact the storm is supposed to last a few days until Monday. My question is what do I do? We've prepared these beautiful envelopes (laser-printed addresses and wax seal) and I'd hate to see them water damaged. Does the post office take any steps to ensure letters stay dry?

My work schedule often doesn't allow me to get to the PO during its open hours, which is why we've been planning this day. Our wedding is 2 months and half-a-week out which is why we want these sent today...

Thank you!!!

The post office gives no fucks about your envelopes.

Not to be a buzzkill - but hand cancelled or not - at some point during the mail process - they are going to go through a machine.

Also, they're likely going to get wet if they go through a rain storm - either when they are getting delivered, or when they are sitting in someone's mailbox waiting to be picked up after delivery.

I mean, the post office doesn't have a motto, but it's commonly thought to be "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." which would mean the same thing for mail.

They are just envelopes. They are going to travel all over the country potentially world depending on your guests. There is literally no way to prevent them from getting dirty. The envelopes are supposed to protect the interior contents...

IMO, you are focusing your energy on things you cannot control. Unless you physically hand deliver them.

I've gotten mail/sent mail during Tropical Storms and such and everything arrived/sent fine. I understand your concern, I would mail them anyway or just wait to mail them until Monday or Tuesday if you really need peace of mind. 2-3 Business days won't make too much of a difference.

This is not Urgent. This isn't even an issue. The post office does not just leave mail outside where it's pouring rain and mail is usually always covered somehow. I would totally not stress this and just know that it is out of your control.

@unaware - I think it's some old school pony express, or made for a movie motto - but my grandfather used to be a back up postman - and he used to say it whenever he had to go fill in. I had to google it today to make sure I got the intensity of the phrasing haha
