Mailing invitations

Jessica, on May 27, 2019 at 6:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 24
I realize this might be a dumb question, not sure lol. How did everyone mail their invites out? We have ours stamped and ready to go (YAY) - just wondering if it’s better to drop them in a box or take them directly to the post office and drop them off at the counter.

What did you all do?? ☺️

Since most of my guests are from a different countey, I had a cousin that was visiting take a box with the invitations with her and they will be distributed by hand. The ones that will be delivered here I will take to the post office myself.

I dropped our STDs in a box, but I'll probably take the invites to the post office.

I took mine to the post office. I live in a city and they have some problems with people stealing out of the blue boxes, so I didn’t want to combat that risk. They recently converted the openings into thin slots instead of the pull-and-drop , so I also would’ve had to put each in one by one.

If you're mailing your invites take them to the post office and ask them to have them "hand cancelled". They will be postmarked by hand rather than machine, preventing them from being damage/excess ink being run through a machine. Definitely don't drop them in the box.. I dropped my STDs in the box inside the office and so many of them still were damaged etc.

Seconding the PP that said to hand-cancel at the post office directly, I just took ours in Saturday and had them hand-cancel each one and seemed to work well for us 🤞🏾

I took mine to the post office, mainly because my anal retentive self wanted to have them weighed one more time to make sure there was appropriate postage on them!

Did that end up costing a lot in the end? I asked the lady at my post office when I went to get them weighed about hand canceling and she asked why I would need to do that 😅

So we actually only needed to cover the stamps that went on the invitations at our post office and the post office we’re happy to hand cancel without an additional cost but I’ve read some post offices charge for more than 25-50 hand cancelled invitations.

We did it to have the invitations not run through the mail machines hence potentially taking off the tabs on the front and sides of our invites!

I weighed ours at the post office (and it's good I did, they required a $0.70 stamp), then dropped them off at the post office box out front!

I rubber-banded my STDs and threw them in the box outside of our post office and a complete nightmare ensued where the whole banded pack was lost for 5 weeks. So when it came time to send out invitations, I handed them straight to the woman at the counter. lol

I don't really have a lot of trust in the postal service, or in our local mail carrier (he's always delivering mail to the wrong house, then me and my neighbors have to do our own exchange). So, for those reasons, I'm taking mine directly to the post office counter.

I took mine to the post office (which is just down the street). I just wanted to get them weighed to make sure they really only needed the regular stamp (I weighed them at home too). They were super sweet and hand canceled them without me even asking for it.

Dropped em in a box, making sure it wasn’t going to rain before it wasn’t picked up because I don’t trust those boxes to be waterproof
