Mailing Invitations - Using Vellum

Reena, on December 28, 2010 at 1:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

I love vellum and want to use it as part of my invitation.

I was wondering, does anyone know if the USPS allows us to use vellum envelopes in the mail? I tried calling their hotline but the person was very unhelpful. He didn't know the answer to the question. Has anyone done it before? I was hoping to use it as my RSVP envelopes.

Thanks!!

I could be wrong, but I thought I remember hearing that the post office will deliver anything as long as it has the correct postage. I feel like I saw a picture of a football, no box, covered in stamps and an address and it was delivered. So, I guess if you can ask for a sample of the invitation, you can take it to the post office and ask if it can use a normal stamp or if you will need extra postage.

I cant see any reason why they wouldn't let you, i would just go to your post office they will tell you.

They'll take it, but the machines may destroy the vellum envelope. Ask for them to be hand-cancelled. You'll have to pay more and they may take longer to get there, but they won't send your envelopes through the machines.

Another alternative may be to use the vellum as the inner envelope and have a normal envelope for the postal service.

I like Danielle's idea of vellum on the inner envelope!

Thanks everyone. Actually I am going to use the vellum as the inner and a regular envelope as the outer, but I also wanted to include the RSVP envelope as a vellum. So I'm more worried about getting my rsvp's back since they will be about 3 x 5 envelopes.
